The condition of fabrics from pile dwelling and wetland settlements is amazing. This charred ball of thread was found at the site of Marin-Epagnier/Préfargier. It was made of hemp or lime fibres, and dates about 3900 to 3300 BC. The thread measures a total of about 10 m in length.

She? Is it safe to assume that we only mansplain to women? At the risk of mansplaining, I think the epicene "they" would be better there.

New Steam Controller 2 and VR controller designs got leaked gamingonlinux.com/2024/11/new-…

We’ll have to wait for the size and thickness, and the angle of the grips, but this will probably not work for me. Symmetrical sticks placed in the middle of the controller, with touchpads on the way where my fat hands will likely activate them all the time…

Sounds like a recipe for thumb and wrist pain for me personally :/

in reply to Nick @ The Linux Experiment

@thelinuxEXP When you look at your hands though, your thumbs naturally rest where the sticks are, so it might not be as bad as you think
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@thelinuxEXP The layout looks quite similiar to the Steam Deck so I guess it'll be a matter of how you feel about that and the minor tweaks they've made like having angled track pads
in reply to Brodie Robertson

@BrodieOnLinux The deck is fine, because the grips are horizontal and straight, and the sticks very close to the sides of the device, so the thumb rotation is natural.
On that controller, it seems like the opposite

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@BrodieOnLinux Haha yeah, we’ll see. Ergonomics isn’t an exact science; and doesn’t always work for everyone: AirPods fall out the ears of a fair few people, the PS4 controller was a nightmare for some, and some think the Xbox one controller isn’t good, the Duke managed to get into production, etc..

It can be an awesome controller for a bunch of people, and a nightmare for others 😀

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@BrodieOnLinux @thelinuxEXP I prefer the layout of the PS4 controller to the xbox style, asymmetry doesn't work for me, and the Steam Controller 2 design looks similar to the PS4 but the sticks, buttons and dpad are too high up imho, if I had designed the controller, they would be about 50% lower (all of them) - but then I'm no designer so what do I know 🤣
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@thelinuxEXP I’m just happy there even are symmetrical sticks. There’s the Deck, some Ayn devices and maybe 1 Chinese telescope controller for your phone who do this over the Xbox style layout.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Dépends on how inclined the grips are. They look kinda straight down to me, which means the wrists won’t be rotated in the right portion for the thumbs to lay naturally on the sticks, but we’ll see!
There’s also the issue that my thumbs often bump into one another with symmetrical sticks on a PS controller, because the sticks are too close

Quick read for morning train ride. Poor methods leading to higher false positives, and selecting for number of output leads to poor methods.

Makes sense, but how would this apply to independent/amateur research? IMHO we need good methods beyond tools.

X's legal filing in the InfoWars bankruptcy case is both batshit crazy and also what you'd expect. It asserts that X owns every account, can do whatever it wants with them, and can inject itself into legal proceedings that have nothing to do with it.

This is why it's incredibly important that people invest in platforms that they own, and move toward federated/decentralized/portable, noncorporate social media as rapidly as possible

@smellsofbikes I know. And you can't really tell people: look at the art not the artist, because the artist is doing harm, and many of us have been the subject of that type of harm. I like Willow's conclusion: do as you will--just remember that the world is full of good writers who all need your support, not just the famous ones.

Sausage is great, but you really don't want to know what's in it. Once you do know- then you have a choice to make. Leave it in the grocery store, or buy it, take it home, cook it, and eat it.
Good video. I agree with her conclusion. I could only listen to it - not watch it. Her hands and arms flying around, and all the tattoos were too much of a distraction.

Quite a user-friendly driver "warning" from Ubisoft. This popup is apparently permanent. No way to dismiss it, and it persists across gameplay and menus. Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

I for one regard it inappropriate that nextcloud doesn't publish their videos barrier free, at least additionally. We have video services without tracking! Ever heard of #Peertube?
in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

I realize that most of those apps are developed by a single person in their free time and I'm highly appreciative of that so it's their free choice to stop supporting their app. And I've encountered many such apps in the past in the app store. That makes me wonder, are all of those 400 apps compatible with nextcloud hub 9? Or are those that say compatible with nextcloud 28 also counted here?
