Google's Project Genie experiment allows creating interactive worlds with generative AI gamingonlinux.com/2026/02/goog…

The deliberate conscious effort that we humans require to do anything, like make art or write an academic paper, has been belittled and glossed over.

Instead results are glamorously prized as the product of success, and the amount of effort that it took to get there is hidden away in shame.

AI is the obscene extreme to that mentality: not more thinking, effort, work, anything— get the result now. While it was that exact effort that made us human in the first place.

I'm looking for a singer for a little project. Upcoming, recording/performing, building a profile... Crucially, needs to be a bit R&B / soul-y in style, and able to improvise melodically. So if anyone's recently stumbled across anyone like this on, say, Bandcamp etc, I'd be interested to know

AI isn’t making people dumber. It’s amplifying how people already think. Most people were never reflecting on their thinking—they were reacting and signaling. AI was meant to remove monotony and refine understanding, not replace cognition. But when that isn’t how it’s used, it becomes a tool for content and social signaling, just like social media. That dynamic accelerates fragmentation, not insight.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

the cause of this horror is the stupid consumer buying it. "Dumb fucks", according to Mark Zuckerbergs description.

something right would have been no AI. Just because we can turn it off doesn't mean we will always have that ability.

If I remember correct, Linus wandte to use a closed Sources System, But Others declined?

in reply to It's FOSS

this reminds me situation with CCleaner where hackers replaced download installation file and for few days people were downloading fake malware version of application.

breachspot.com/news/cyber-atta…

Such events show how important is security of servers where popular open source and free applications are stored.
Would be great if some anti hack/malware companies offered free options for FOSS developers. Or maybe they already provide and I'm not aware about it.

Adobe Is Ruthlessly Killing Off Software That Animators Around The World Are Using Every Day

On a page morbidly-titled "End of Life FAQ", the company writes:

Adobe Animate will no longer be available to download for new customers, beginning March 1, 2026. Enterprise customers can access the application, download their content, and receive technical support until March 1, 2029. For all other customers, technical support, application access, and the ability to download content will be available until March 1, 2027.

For me, the user experience of switching to Linux is like a step backwards in time by twenty or thirty years, compared to my (highly limited, UX-wise) Macbook experience. And I've been doing this stuff in some form since 1980. Professionally for a couple of decades. I may be willing to take the hit to get away from The Man (or, if you like, The Shit of The Man), but for most of my immediate friends and family, that's not in the cards. They just want their tablet and their phone and their apps and their streaming and their venmo etc. They want the cloud to do everything, and aren't worried or cognizant about the abuse, and mostly don't even want to talk about it. I mean, I want Machines of Loving Grace too, but, uh, yeah, how's that gonna work again?

Hello brains trust!

My fairy wand as the Wattle Fairy Godmother is more of a walking stick. It is both cute and badass! Don't mess with fairies with big wands! hehehe!

For seven years the ceramic bird glued to the top has held steady. Last year it came off. I asked people what to use in order to re-attach it. A particular glue was suggested as being extra tough. It was a two-step thingo. It lasted one day at the festival for which I needed it, but by late afternoon, someone pointed out that my bird was hanging by a gooey thread. So, I removed her before she could fall off and possibly break.

Does anyone here have any ideas how I can attach a ceramic bird to a rubber cap on a wooden staff?

in reply to Muse

I have a memory of hearing that people have used Ocotillo to make fences. I suppose, by using plate armor gauntlets to handle them. Anyway something like Willow sticks, the fences root in the soil and you have a living "barbed wire" barrier.
in reply to Muse

Attempts are made to use primroses for a similar barrier. I hate trying to clear up after that, raspberries and locust too. Not a pretty. Spanish bayonet is also a fun one for the unaware.

Muse reshared this.

• It would also disenfranchise members of the military who may not be able to return home to register or
update their registration in person ahead of an election.
