Does anyone at #RUB or any other #NRW #university know if this will have any consequences for #Sciebo (#Hochschulcloud)? I would be all in favour of migrating this to nextcloud instead but the realist in me tells me that this won't happen.
in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Ugh. I love y'all, but I always have performance issues when running Nextcloud that I don't have when running OwnCloud on the same hardware. That they got bought is really disappointing.

Why Does Invidious Even Exist #Linux #YouTube youtube.com/watch?v=fjtz5-ZuLl…

ABBA’s concert which is performed by avatars of the band has made £322.6M since it opened in May 2022. Kiss has announced plans to be the first US band to create a similar show.

As other artists see how much money there is to be made I wonder if we’ll see such shows from long dead artists (a permanent Michael Jackson hologram/avatar concert) or younger artists who simply want to multitask like Taylor Swift or Drake.

I can’t imagine this is a trend limited to boomers.

reuters.com/lifestyle/abbas-vi…

in reply to Dare Obasanjo

@Gargron A virtual performance means money for nothing and chicks for free.

Uhh…I mean the band can profit from past performances while servicing fans.

The fans are used to watching lip-synced concerts on screens anyway, so it’s an increment of abstraction that may make little difference, unless you’re seated in orchestra, the performer is dead, 30-ft tall, or a conversant AI.

It will metamorph, like TV stopped being a stageplay, taking advantage of the new mediums.

in reply to skry

@skry Happy to say none of the gigs I ever went to were lip-synced.

I needed to understand the angles on Threads federation in a more rigorous way, so I took a few days to think through and write up my sense of the benefits, risks, and available risk mitigations, along with loopholes that need closing and questions to discuss with fediverse administrators.

This is a blisteringly hot subject for me, so it's hard to keep my head cool enough to understand other people's trade-offs, but I'm trying.

[EDIT: I neither am nor personally know these people. I am a very tired fan who saw an ask. If you have a piece of real advice, please click the link and take it to THEM. If you have snarky comments, take them to the sea. It won't care either but it's a lot less likely to hurt your feelings than I am.]

The team behind the 90's animated series ReBoot has recently found their original D1 masters, and they want to transfer them to a more current format for archiving and potential re-release.

The catch is, that would require a working D1 tape deck, and those are really hard to find. So if you have a line on a D1 deck, please let them know; it'll help out a lot of fans:

I'm getting started with a #CoSocialCa Holiday Hangout!

CoSocial members and anyone else welcome on Jitsi jitsi.cosocial.ca/2023HolidayH…

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr we _just_ recently spun up a Cloudron for "ops" purposes -- running the wordpress blog, email for working groups, the jitsi.

I plan on migrating the Members Discourse from Digital Ocean to this server.

I'd like to use Mastodon as the single-sign-on, need to do some future experiments there.

We're "professionally" hosting the CoSocial Mastodon server for scale / without single points of failure, and will for other official services like Pixelfed.

in reply to Boris Mann

we've just added a separate with system so that Mastodon isn't our single point if failure either, but it doesn't yet interop with Mastodon.

apex was always an exercise in frustration for me, and oddly enough I found Fortnite to be way more "fun" despite my initial revulsion. The whole thing just feels more casual and it's really all I have bandwidth for mentally in the fps genre.

Speaking as someone who played doom shareware everyday after school I surprised myself with actually liking Fortnite.

No build is the only way to play, lol.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Honestly, playing Yugi The Destiny version of Yu-Gi-Oh Power of Chaos it's quite frustrating due how unfair Yugi is with you, you'll lose more times than you win, but i do not behave this way, self-control it's important.
