@danwchan No, I'm not from QB myself, but I'd love to let people from queensbridge take over.
in reply to queensbridge

I'm happy to chat with you about how we might make that happen. The lab I am working in is just south of QB and I taught in the library branch that's there. Maybe I can help facilitate some connections or something else. Are you in NYC?

Producing your own eggs shows the diversity we should get in shops. Here a gigantic yolk looked at me this morning.

This bun, with a sweet black sesame paste as filling, looks *exactly* like a shitaki mushroom.

I stared at this for some time trying to understand. Then I noticed the little fluff texture at base. This. Is. Amazing. Where did you consume these?

in reply to Danny (he/they)

@danwchan
Haha! Well, if the hardware gets too hot, it throttles the speed, so under heavy load, some winter air keeps things running fast.

We've got stickers and patches, if that's your thing. You can find them from around our usual departments, or ask us.

But the story is more than that. We hope to use these to start a community around #SciComp, #ResearchSoftware, #HPC, etc: we hope the black-background ones can be used as an "Ask me anything" sign - to recognize people who want to help others. Does anyone else do something like this?

Yes, there are several such efforts, some regional, a few global. Contact us at any of the contact points at hpc.social and we’ll be happy to pass info along on those there as well as others.

hope when you folks start getting females leaders, you get better ones than us in the UK. Maggy, May and Truss, were all terrible. Probably because they were Conseratives. We are yet to have a Jacinda Ardern either.

Warner Bros. is gonna do another series of Lord of the Rings movies. variety.com/2023/film/news/lor…
in reply to kottke.org

“Warner Bros. has a packed upcoming slate. To round out the second quarter, “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” will arrive in a matter of weeks. Kicking off the summer is Ezra Miller’s “The Flash,” followed by the hotly anticipated “Barbie,” from director Greta Gerwig and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. In August, Jason Statham will face a prehistoric shark yet again in “Meg 2: The Trench,” and New Line will roll out DC’s “Blue Beetle.” “ 1/2

Bleh. Tolkien did years of meticulous world-building and then carefully crafted a singular relatable narrative to work within that world and then -- with some exceptions -- let it go. Just make D&D movies set in the Forgotten Realms, if you need to.
