@helpers Hello, I'm new to fediverse hosting. Recently started a small Friendica instance for me and my friends.
System: YunoHost 12.0.12 on VPS bought online
App: Friendica 2024.12-1~ynh1
URL: kedralife.cz

I have huge problems with the worker queue, it periodically gets stuck for a very long time, processing nothing for hours or (more often) days (so far the maximum was 11 days) when it just grows a processes nothing. This means that my friends can't send each other private messages, public posts don't federate and any sort of permission-restricted posts get stuck on "pending" for days.

I tried running the worker.php with crontab very 5 minutes in addition to the friendica deamon, but it does not seem to help.

Friendica-deamon log:

@rainer I presumed it handles email notifications.

The error messages from the log are from my prior effort to solve unrelated problem by completely effing up my posfix settings.

That one now seems to be solved by reinstalling postfix.

simple answer: quite the same as "apk upgrade --update" or "apt update && apt full-upgrade"

I was just so excited about this new crop of Pebbles I had to blog about it.

My mom was right. Everything that goes out of fashion comes back in eventually. I think she was talking about bellbottoms but it works for smartwatches too.

Yay thank you for sharing this! Do you think it would work as a privacy friendly kid watch? I guess basic needs:

- calling
- texting
- location monitoring only to parents

@ntnsndr Like, notifications on the watch require having a phone? To inform the person of a text to the watch?

The European Union is aiming high with EU OS. Will they be able to achieve their goals?

in reply to It's FOSS

I don't think building a distro is the best way to switch to Linux for the public sector.

The EU should test @SUSE, which is based in Germany or a community-based distro like #AlmaLinux.

Building a New Distro is, IMO, wasting ressources that can be used in training PEOPLE to use Linux and Implementation.

Apparently when you travel to the US, free speech is not allowed. Vance comments in Europe about freedom and free speech sound more hollow then ever before.
"The tactics have unnerved foreign tourists and sent a chill through immigrant communities in the United States, who say they are being targeted for speech — not for breaking any laws."

#PhoenixPoint is a great game. Don't know why it should be framed as a bit of a mess?!
But we talk about #Frosthaven . Let's see what will set it apart from gloomhaven. We played the complete campaign of gloomhaven with 4 players online, which was a pretty good experience.

Weird. It's been a while that I played the game, but if you'd asked me I'd have said: they already have this! 🤷 I was pretty sure they'd already have reflexions and hazy light and stuff. Well... since *now* I'm finally right again. 😅

in reply to Gerhard Hallstein

Successful #permacomputing expriment: an android phone as a web server.

remote.materialsmatter.ie

Termux doing all the heavy lifting here, but going through the setup has been quite good fun.

- Samsung Android phone
- Termux + the various other needed packages, primarily Termux:Boot, termux-api-*, cronie
- IPV6rs - wireguard for http access
- Tmate for deterministic remote ssh access (could not get ssh to work with IPV6rs, unclear why)
- Networking is via the onboard Sim Card.

To-do / question:
- why does it not work from cellular connections? Assuming there is an issue in the IPV6rs configs, but cannot figure out why, works fine from non-cellular connections
- publish documentation / cite sources
- test out in Wild Nephin National Park, plugged in to solar rig at Ballycroy

in reply to Colm O'Neill

Must add: I was hoping to achieve all this on a #postmarketOS device. I have pmOS running on a Samsung A3, but was never able to get the modem to work for it to connect to cellular.

Did a hard pivot to this Android setup, and enjoyed the process, but I did so because I could not figure out how complex it would be to get pmOS on this newer Samsung A40.

One issue I did run into was that the newer Samsung was networked locked. I had to apply to Three.ie (cellular provider) to get the device unlocked.

(In retrospect, chances are that this was also happening on the older Samung A3, but tried another sim card from another provider and was not able to get a data connection.)

in reply to Colm O'Neill

Remote.materialsmatter.ie (no SSL yet, http only for now) is actually remote!

Solar rig has been performed very well, it is hugely overkill for this setup, but good to have 30 days of testing confirmation.

Gives me no issue to add a heltec v3 #meshtastic node to the power draw, should be fine.

I only need to know 2 things about the Wisconsin Supreme Court election:

1) Judges are the last reasonable roadblock slowing down the Project 2025 plan.

2) Elon Musk and the Project 2025 crew don't want Susan Crawford to win. They're scared.

Susan Crawford. That's the only name I need to know.

crawfordforwi.com/

The other person's name doesn't matter. Their platform doesn't matter.

So resist the very human urge to talk about that person and why they are bad.

Because name recognition affects judge elections more than you think. A lot of people are just going to vote for whichever name they've heard most. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Elon is dumping in millions to make sure that as many people have heard that other name as possible.

You can't fight that by also saying that other name.

Talk about this name instead.

Susan Crawford.

That's who they don't want to win.

BINGO!!!
