that's really cool. I always felt like the touch bar was a good idea hampered by a failure to go all in

in reply to The Tor Project

I'll add that some people on the Internet seem to not understand that privacy is not binary. You don't have either zero privacy or full privacy. Privacy is a spectrum, you can have more or less of it.

Currently updating from #NextCloud 31.0.4 to 31.0.5. Upgrading always makes me a little nervous because occasionally it's followed by enforced effort (e.g. updating an index, fixing a configuration or updating the PHP version).

In practice it's totally smooth most of the time.

But my brain can't help it apparently.

in reply to David Llewellyn-Jones

The update was a success! There were some missing optional indices to add, but that was super-easy.

So I'm now feeling comfortable once again and with much gratitude for the amazing #NextCloud devs.

Or you can download the .tar.gz from MS' web page.

ARM (Raspberry Pi) is pretty well supported by Debian but sees less so with Arch. Unfortunately the changes needed to run the Pi 5 have not all been upstreamed but EndeavourOS seems to run well. (KDE/Plasma)

Use VSCodium please!

It has support for open-vsx extensions and has no telemetry by default.

xAI to invest $300M in Telegram, integrate Grok into app tcrn.ch/4jrGOHl
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron Telegram always lied about being secure. I don’t think they were ever decent
in reply to Jérôme

@jerome They have a lot of good features that aren't end-to-end encryption.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Eugen, Signal sucks on desktop though. The mandatory end-to-end encryption already leaks into the UX too much, but on top of that, they intentionally made it worse by making desktop sessions expire and by not loading your past messages when you log back in.

If Telegram gets really bad with pushing the AI stuff, I'll have to consider switching to third-party client apps or maybe even making one myself.

State secrets privilege, now invoked for deportees, has long let the U.S. escape accountability in court

After nine days and four court appearances, the Trump administration realized recently it could raise the state secrets privilege as a defense in the case of the people it’s deported without due process to Venezuela. It did so.

I think this is the first dedicated event about the fediverse by a national political party I can remember. Felt good to be there and discuss how we can improve Mastodon further. Thanks @bjoernsta @eskensaskia @madspankow #rp25 #republica

The technology doesn't work. It *feels* like it works, so they keep doing science to see whether it does or it doesn't. But when you look at it with science instead of vibes, it just doesn't. fortune.com/2025/05/18/ai-chat…

Microsoft's new terminal editor for Linux? Say what!? 🤯

Say: Boycott this MS Bullshit.
For Decades they do their toxic "EEE*" Bullshit to takeover even more Product Categories.
Since a while they're focussing on Linux and its ecosystem, and nobody seems to realize this.

in reply to It's FOSS

Sounds like a promising entry-level TUI text editor. When I started with the terminal, I was very used to GUI keymappings like copy/paste. This could reduce the learning curve significantly for people who just want to run some terminal commands.

(also, people are memeing on it already, and now I understand the memes)

One of my favourite shows as a kid was the Mel Brooks TV series When Things Were Rotten. I loved the Robin Hood stories and I loved Bugs Bunny. This brought both of those together on a weekly basis! I just discovered I can re-watch complete episodes on YouTube. They are still funny! I would suggest starting with the second episode. The first one is a little wobbly. I hope I continue to laugh as I go through them. @Samuel Smith I think you and your family might get a kick!

in reply to Muse

I remember liking it, but not anything else, except enjoying the theme song. Maybe I'll take a look, although when I tried to re-watch some Black Adder I pretty much couldn't do it.

I went through a similar process to this fellow's mum. It's one reason why I am so patient with right-wing people who sometime wander into Diaspora. Sometimes I can talk them over to the left. It just depends, but usually I can spot someone who could use a little kindness and thereby learn a little kindness.

Once you realize that you have been lied to, and seen it with your eyes.
For some folks it never goes beyond "Bob/Miguel/Nguyen" is an all right guy, but I don't know about Them.

I have a new exhibition I am in with the Victorian Artists Society!

They had just put my painting "Orange You Glad" on the wall as I was leaving. It will be moved a few times before the exhibition opens, I am sure.

in reply to Muse

@Muse - I could buy you a few jars (they tend to run about $15USD for a not-all-that-large jar). But I have no idea of the difficulty or cost of sending edibles to Australia. (We just sent a small computer to Germany and the shipping cost was .... hang on ... $400+USD!!!.)
@Muse

It's taking me a moment to really think about this fediverse presence I'm trying to build for NLNL... today I'm remembering to post here letting y'all know our next dance session is tomorrow night May 28th at 7PM. Registration required but $15 donation optional. We want folks to have a safe space in the city to shake their bodies for #exercise, #MentalHeath or any other reason they might have.

Boosts appreciated!

got 6.15 on Mint. Only thing I've noticed so far is slightly higher low 10% in Cyberpunk. Although, can't say I tested everything.. =P it's less than one day old ^^
