I discovered this game at Games Made in France 2025, a multi-day online event showcasing French games and studios, and it has only improved since then. It's worth noting that its developer is also the developer of Linkito!

Was fรผhrte zur OnlyOffice Entscheidung ?

#eurooffice #deutschlandstack

in reply to ChaP

I don't understand the decision to use OnlyOffice as the basis for Euro-Office. Here are my thoughts:

- Its Russian origin and ties

- Additional conditions to the APGL = crippled open source

- The ODF file format is not natively supported, and the ODF format exported by OnlyOffice is not fully compatible. However, ODF is a mandatory standard in public administration.

What led to the OnlyOffice decision?

(Google Translation)

in reply to ChaP

hey there!

1. What matters is it's open source software. The Euro-Office team is working on the code to make sure it's a reliable and transparent product. You can read about the current state of things and what's next in the article.

2. The licensing question is explained in detail here: nextcloud.com/blog/euro-officeโ€ฆ

3. ODF compatibility is something we are currently working on, as mentioned in the article as well.

So @clero you are right in your findings, thanks!

in reply to Nextcloud ๐Ÿ“ฑโ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ’ป

Couldn't you have come up with a better name than "Euro-Office"? I know ONLYOFFICE wasn't a great name either, but... competing for terrible product names isn't a competition worth winning... ๐Ÿ˜…

"Humility is a tough sell. On the surface, many Westernized, individualistic cultures don't reward humility. The "squeaky wheel gets the grease," and often the loudest, brashest, and most selfish people grab the power, resources, and money and appear to reap all the benefits and none of the costs. We elevate vanity and praise peacocking; we see narcisstic displays as the cost of doing business. In fact, we have come to idolize such actions as some misplaced form of confidence."

Daryl van Tongeren, PhD from Humble: free yourself from the traps of a marcissistic world 2022

in reply to Muse

Every time I hear "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," I reply with the Japanese proverb: "The nail that sticks up gets hammered down." Doing so often ends conversations, which suits me fine, given the people involved.

The funny thing is, they actually couldn't have gotten away with it in 1997. Oh don't get me wrong, people would tolerate a lot even then and let them get away with horrible stuff, but people absolutely wouldn't have allowed anything remotely like what goes on today. It has been one heck of a long process to get everyone to the point where Microsoft can do everything but install cameras in their house and people will just shrug and accept it.

Actually, we may already be to the point that people will accept the cameras...

Has anyone bought any of the t-shirts that are offered in the Mastodon Shop? I want to buy one but I'm not sure what size to get. The website measures t-shirt sizes by "chest width," which must be an European thing cuz I've never seen clothes measured like that in the US.

My chest is about 20 inches wide, which would put me in a Small size according to their size chart. But I normally wear an extra large so I don't think that's right.

Can anyone explain? Help!

in reply to libramoon

@David I like your thinking. I find, after living abroad, that checks and balances are well worth their while. The main issue is how they are done. At the moment there is a movement in Britain to abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a House of Sortition. The House of Commons would remain.

Having both been a political activist and a policy writer for an Australian political party, I understand that an important part of any politician's job is just administration. This includes advocating for individuals within the politician's electorate. I had a politician advocate on my behalf when my visa to become a resident in Australia was slow in coming. Andrew and I sent a message to our senator and she made sure I could get into the country on time for my own wedding!

So we need people who vote on issues, but we also need people who know how to manage the bureaucracy for their people.

The end of oil? As fuel shocks cascade, 53 nations gather to plan a fossil fuel phaseout

...

"The routine burning of coal, oil and gas is the primary driver of the climate crisis. The worldโ€™s highest court last year made clear nations have obligations to stop burning fossil fuels.

"But fossil fuels have barely been mentioned in 30 years of global climate negotiations, due in part to blocking efforts by big fossil fuel exporters and lobbyists.

"Frustrated by slow progress, a coalition of nations has bypassed global climate talks to discuss how to actually phase out fossil fuels.

"The first of these summits will take place next week. More than 50 nations will gather in Santa Marta, Colombia, to discuss a potential standalone treaty to manage fossil-fuel phaseout while protecting workers and financial systems.

"Colombian Environment Minister Irene Vรฉlez Torres says it comes at the โ€œbest possible momentโ€, as the oil crisis focuses global attention on fossil fuel dependency...

YES!

in reply to Muse

That said, it is the Oil Industry which has literally corrupted our political system so as to further enable the uncontrolled and accelerating use of their products.
in reply to Muse

@tomgrzybow And caused irreversible global climate change that IMO has the likelihood of killing billions of us via starvation and war. Apparently, something many of our wealthy masters are depending on to further solidify their power over the world's people.

The thing that kills me about all this is that after years of building up kind/human/caring community around me, ppl I appreciated because of those traits suddenly drop all semblance of caring about them because.... they have the perception of coding a bit better/faster. That's all it took.

I'll say it straight: you can't voluntarily and willingly use LLMs in a way that's aligned with respect for marginalized folks, with respect for the environment, with respect for labor issues and rights, with respect for art, and with respect for the community aspects of things like open source.

It is simply impossible. Pretending you can is the deepest form of cognitive dissonance and I'm just beyond disturbed to see it happening all around me.

I've already unfollowed so many folks I once respected, blocked some others, and just generally withdrawn from a community that used to be so personally fulfilling to be a part of. It's really sad.
