New science results confirm our #DARTMission's asteroid deflection technology can be an effective way to change the orbit of an asteroid, should there ever be a threat. The DART spacecraft intentionally slammed into asteroid Dimorphos in Sept. 2022: go.nasa.gov/3YbKyBS

The team identified every single tree in over 326,000 satellite images, using artificial intelligence algorithms. Measuring trees in the field allowed the scientists to relate the satellite data to how much carbon was stored in individual trees.
#NASAEarth

The team found there are far more trees in semi-arid regions of Africa than previously thought. But those trees store less carbon than some models predicted.

They estimate roughly 0.84 petagrams of carbon are locked up in African drylands.
(1 Pg = 1 billion metric tons)

in reply to NASA

But what is the prognosis about how many trees will there be in five, ten, twenty years? Are they increasing in number, are they spreading, or is the desert claiming more and more land?

The data are publicly available with a viewer app developed by the team. #OpenScience

The app identifies individual trees in satellite imagery and shows the amount of carbon they contain.

One of the neatest recent developments in myrmecology is the increasing understanding that trophallaxis (the way ants feed each other mouth to mouth) isn’t just about sharing food. Watch ants at all and you’ll see that food sharing goes on far more often than hunger alone would require. Moreover when the colony is excited or alarmed both trophallaxis and grooming happen more often. It’s about information. 🧵 (video: a queen ant receives her daily intelligence briefing)

There's a real big, fundamental problem with the entire concept of using "smart contracts" on a blockchain as a way to organize co-ops that I haven't seen anyone talk about. You can't use a #DAO to create a co-op because co-op members need to be able to actually read and understand the coordinating documents of the org. Would you take someone seriously who wanted you to join a co-op who's bylaws were written in a foreign language? Well, that's precisely what a #DAO is.

As the New Horizons spacecraft flew by Jupiter #OTD in 2007, the most volcanically active body in our solar system didn't disappoint: Tvashta, a volcano on Jupiter's moon Io, was caught spewing a plume 200 miles above the surface! More about Io: go.nasa.gov/41vbEXP

Well that explains where Pikamee has been, bullied off the internet for wanting to play a videogame, this website contains some of biggest oxygen thieves to ever live, anyone who was involved in the harrassment is genuinely a terrible human being.

anyone who thinks this harassment furthers their cause need to go back to school. Hate breeds hate.

I'm glad others such as Silvervale was able to get through it and not let the harassers win.

in reply to Brodie Robertson

The harassment campaign and the boycott have both been idiotic to say the least. The best way you could do a change here is by simply advocating for people to pirate the game and, optionally, tell them to donate to the developer studio in question. Everything else is just moronic, especially in this case, as these people are just making lifes harder because of a damn video game.

As it happens I'm messing about with PHP 8.1 (somebody doesn't like 8.2) and some new Maria tables that have odd bit ranges with UTF8-MB4.
