I'm off work this week (yaaaaay!), so I'm doing my Future Proof Plays stream at 2 pm Eastern today instead of on an evening or weekend. (I've been struggling so much with sleep that we're gonna catch these daytime hours while they're available!)

I'll be streaming INDIKA over at twitch.tv/averymd in about three hours. In the interim, I'm going to try dyeing my hair! 💃🏽

I've played Portia back when it released and absolutely loved it. I still need to buy and play Sandrock. Hopefully, I can do that before Evershine is released.

"Fair Source" is obviously a bullshit term, but "Open Source" also isn't quite accurate for how restrictive the term has come to be used as.

I propose the following categories:

Closed-Proprietary: totally closed source
Open-Proprietary: source available, but read-only, not copyable
Open-Source: source available for non-commercial use
Free-Source: source available for any use

"how restrictive the term has come to be used as"

As someone who follows it all closely, I think this is just a really incorrect way to describe the situation.

Open Source is the same as ever, across a set of licenses opensource.org/ - the issue is people who keep coming along and defining their own terms and still calling it open source, basically co-opting the term against how it's supposed to be used

Wow - didn't realize this ran under the #Godot engine. Played some of the earlier versions -- now I should reset it and start from the beginning again. (Although I've current got many hours into Army of Ruin...and still a long way to go with it....)

Frog Protocols announced to try and speed up Wayland protocol development gamingonlinux.com/2024/09/frog…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

not really competing, it's designed to be experimental. To allow for early adoption and real world usage to speed up wayland protocol development.

So while people are bickering on wayland protocols KWin & mutter & Gamescope can actually use things as a stop gap.

they don't seem to have taken their own advice though, the page is covered in ai images 😛

kinda frustrating that the body of the site is half plastered with model generated images when they clearly have access to some of the most unique and aesthetically talented web developers and graphic designers ive seen. at least the logo and header look nice though.

Been playing with Faircamp—a static site generator for musicians and labels that sort of replaces bandcamp—and it's pretty neat: simonrepp.com/faircamp/

Something that's really nice is that it manages all the transcoding for you. So I was able to provide lossless tracks and have it automatically generate all the various formats I wanted to offer the music in.

Plus, makes it easy to do download codes and pay-what-you-can, both things that can be difficult for less-technical people/groups.

I set up a test of it on a subdomain of my music site and I may just eventually replace my existing music player and download system with this: music.jefftheworld.com/

I am in Phoenix to give a talk at ASU, and I took some time to go to the nearby #botanical #garden. Incredibly beautiful #cactus. It's amazing how large they can get. I grew up in Tucson, so it reminded me of the hikes I used to take with my family.
