If we were to throw out the wonderful art, music and books created by all the people who did awful things, there wouldn't be much left, frankly. We went through this in the Catholic church when a composer of church music we had all loved for years was found to be an abuser. For a while, we did without - and his works are no longer published in new hymnals. But it really hurt - as these are beautiful songs that live in the hearts of so many people. However, now, if we occasionally use those songs because they are the best choice to go with a set of scriptures, or a family requests them from a funeral, we report the copyright use to the publisher, as we always do with all music, and they donate a portion of the royalties to a fund for abused women.
