Food for thought. It has to be tough on teachers to see this happening.

To teach in the time of ChatGPT is to know pain

This doesn't work for everyone (especially online courses must be terrible now), but I found a few simple solutions: Forget any assignment that will be "written", unless as an unscored practice or done 1 on 1 right in front of you. I did for example have written exams the same way as oral exams: one by one in my office, on my computer. Focus on actual skills. In presentations I checked the presentation itself for mistakes or omissions, but otherwise only scored the actual performance: How students spoke, how they presented their topic.

Problem is, a lot of faculty is unable to adapt, to change. I've heard "that's impossible" or "that can't be done" way too often, even after I already did it myself.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a mechanical keyboard?

1) Preferably good value, rather than super expensive
2) Wired
3) Mostly for typing, occasional gaming
4) Gaudy LED welcome, not required
5) Numpad included
6) Easily obtainable in Japan

RE: mastodon.social/@Mastodon/1164…

I am very happy to finally be able to announce this. We are working hard (you can’t imagine) to secure funding to continue to improve Mastodon, and are very grateful that amazing organisation like @sovtechfund invest in open-source, and especially Mastodon.

Developing open-source software is hard (and it is not becoming easier) and quality software requires a lot of hard work. Our team is growing and we are delivering more polished features than ever, and we continue to try to push it further

We’re happy to share that Mastodon has been awarded a service agreement from the Sovereign Tech Fund @sovtechfund 🎉

This covers five major initiatives through 2026 and 2027. We are very grateful for this support. Read about the details in our blog post.

It's #PortfolioDay, and for once I'm also going to partake by sharing a few of my photos. I am a photographer and I shoot predominantly on film. I enjoy the slow and tactile process, and I love the grain. I try to take pictures of things I find beautiful or meaningful. You can see more of my work on my website:

OK, back to work. Since it's nearly apple-blossom time AND a nice day, we got busy and seeded up the "Pot-O-Carrots" for the season. It's a large planter, about 19 inches in diameter and 15 inches deep, holding about 12 gallons (43 liters) of potting mix. We use pelleted seed and plant in concentric circles with about ½ inch spacing. Pictures are an attempt to show what we do and what the scale is.

i was wondering why there isn't a tracker (as in ProTracker etc) for Varvara. i think the answer is that orca fills this niche
in reply to jn (big endian energy)

@jn that's the reason 😀 before making orca, I had started working on a tracker(it was called marabu) and I dropped it to focus on orca, it was like a tracker, only moreso 😀

My current way to interest people to join us: The Fediverse is more like local politics, with small communities discussing things. Centralised networks like Twitter, TikTok, instagram etc are more like national politics, with loud mouthpieces shouting over everyone else.

This mental image helps me in understanding why the influencers fail here and they of course think that means that the fediverse must be a lost cause while we commoners happily chug along and enjoy our little street parties ;)
