Sorry I missed this symposium at the #Denver #AAASmtg. If there’s interest, I can send the transcript of a similar event during the 2019 #Tennessee #STEAM Festival; “From Plato to #CRISPR : Communicating #Science through Story-telling.” #STEAMfest #SciComm

#Bacteriophages encode anti-CRISPR proteins that inactivate bacterial #CRISPR-Cas systems, allowing successful invasion, replication & integration. This study shows that #antiCRISPR protein AcrIIA1 induces degradation of #Cas9 in human cells #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3uUGAos

A diverse set of species, from #snails to #algae to #amoebas, make programmable DNA-cutting enzymes called #Fanzors — and a new study from scientists at MIT’s McGovern Institute for Brain Research has identified thousands of them.

#Rotifers have been studied for >100 years re #microevolution, #EcologicalDynamics & #ecotoxicology. This study presents a #CRISPR-based method for KO mutation of 1 or 2 alleles, and KI mutations, in rotifers with high efficiency @MBLscience #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3Kb8CAC

Many in vitro #CRISPR knock-in approaches use small molecule drugs to improve the efficiency of homology-directed repair, but these drugs may or may not be safe in vivo. In this paper from #NatureBiotechnology, the authors find that an FDA-approved therapy, fludarabine, can be used for a similar purpose. Still a long ways to go before any genetic knock-ins are routinely done in vivo, but making progress toward doing so safely: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-022-01240-2 #science #medicine #GeneEditing #AAV
