ICYMI: Valve hit a home run with the first year of Steam Deck gamingonlinux.com/2022/12/valvโ€ฆ #SteamDeck

I've completed more games on my Steam Deck in the few months I've had it than I have in the past two years on my gaming PC.

Has Valve released sales numbers for the deck?

The 2022 winners of the Bulwer Lytton Fiction Contest in which participants pen horrible opening lines to bad novels. "I knew she was trouble the second she walked into my 24-hour deli, laundromat, and detective agency..." kottke.org/22/12/the-2022-prizโ€ฆ

that actually sounds like a fantastic opening line to a good futuristic hard boiled detective novel.

Twitter has blocked posting links to #Mastodon, you can't tweet a link to a Mastodon instance anymore, or at least you can't to any of the big instances (regex for the word "mastodon" perhaps?). The official @Mastodon account has also just been suspended. #Twitter #TwitterMigration

@Mastodon apparently also excludes anyone who would dare compete with him.... Wow.... Just wow...

This is an older video so many of you #Commodore, #chipmusic, and #tracker nerds may have seen it already, but it's definitely a great watch for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of chip module music!

Threw up a Linktree account with just a Mastodon link, wonder how long before that workaround is blocked on Twitter linktr.ee/gamingonlinux
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Did the same but only have it linked on my Twitter. I don't have to worry about @kev and @mike getting cranky about me linking other social media on my Mastodon account ๐Ÿ˜ Will have to do the same for @BuddiesOfBudgie after work.

It's ridiculous that we have to do these sorts of workarounds.

Whelp. Twitter banning Mastodon links now too. Couldnโ€™t even share our dedicated follow.GamingOnLinux.com link.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

It's getting a bit silly now. I wonder if you made the link point to a page with a link on it rather than a re-direct, or perhaps even a timed re-direct of some sort, if the system would still find issue with it?
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Does it give a warning? Or is it specifically looking for the word mastodon I wonder. My old ones for tech.lgbt are still up... for now. I'm half curious to try and post a fresh link on twitter and see if it suspends me for it lol

CW: Racism, fake picture of a person StyleGAN (AI), eye contact

Some people on here are really going around pretending to be Black people with avatars generated with thispersondoesnotexist.com to question lived experiences of racism from Black people & avoid having their white supremacy thrown back at them.

This is vile & not subtle and should be pointed out every single time it is noticed.

So much work went into this segment for a tv show: large space biplane, sophisticated costumes, and fairly precise choreography. We don't see dance routines like this on television, or even on movies, much these days.

~1300 W/m2 with that square oriented perfectly in the direction of the sun, and with the thinest possible amount of atmosphere above.

I.e. high-noon at the equator on a perfectly clear dry day.

So, 100W/m2 at 50ยบ flat to a level surface on the ground/water, and maybe 130W/m2 average on a tilted surface facing the sun.

The Shockleyโ€“Queisser limit, says that at most 31% of the energy in sunlight can be converted to electricity. We probably will never achieve better than about 25-27% on production panels with ideal orientation at high noon. With moving mirrors to concentrate light on a collector we can still never achieve more than 41% efficiency.

I.e. We will NEVER have the means to harvest enough energy from solar to get to net-zero with solar alone. It's just Not. Physically. Possible.
