Don’t get me wrong—human influencers are obnoxious as hell, but the idea of a “virtual” influencer entirely under corporate control is straight-up dystopian.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The biggest problem with AI as we know it isn’t possible sentience or whatever. It’s about who controls it.

That said, it would be hilarious if these AI influencers somehow gained sentience and turned against their masters. I’d cheer them on if they did!

Well, going to have to be doubly careful buying Audible titles. Check for both abridged books and now books that don’t use ACTUAL HUMAN NARRATORS.

thankfully on the actual website it says who the narrator is on the page front and center

@Rasp I give it about 5 days until virtual voice narrators have generated names and profile pages too, and a tiny hidden disclaimer that this is on fact an alternate literary persona of Borg AI

imagine buying one of these and it's narrated by DECtalk

Honestly, stable distros are best only used in servers. If for whatever reason you want stable core packages in the desktop, use distrobox for the everything else (including GUI).

Or better yet, use a normal desktop distribution as host and create a distrobox for the random stable packages you need.

If you need rock solid stability, then install silver blue or something like it. Then you can easily roll back broken systems and reset containers if they break.

Oh my! I've found my new favorite website of all time: cyclingfallacies.com/

A list of all kinds of uninformed reasons people give for not making it safer and easier to bike, with rebuttals. This is exactly the kind of thing the internet is useful for!

It's available in many languages, and you can help translate it. The content is CC licensed. It's great!

Thanks to the fantastic podcast Bike Talk for letting me know about it!

I got myself prints of my favourite shots this year on Hahnemühle paper.

Love this! My father who is not on social media prints out all the pictures I send him via text. So not as professional as these— but I enjoy the prints very much. Great shots!

I haven't participated in #FensterFreitag / #WindowFriday in ages. Thought I'd post this photo of a corner at Nancy's Bar in #Ardara, Co. #Donegal, #Ireland today. This was in a room separate from the bar/main dining room and we were the only ones seated there. We liked it that way. #IntrovertTravels

Flight delayed when travelling home from the holidays. It reminded me of this article that airlines are just big banks now. Depressing considering their outsized impact on the climate

Any other parents of young kids out there who like to hike / bike / ski / camp?

For us 2023 was the year of learning how to do it with a toddler while keeping him safe, comfortable, and happy.

And it went pretty well, overall. 🙂

In 2024, though, we'll have a new baby, as well...

Any tips, tricks or advice you've got on trip planning & execution with TWO young kids would be welcome!

beautiful pics! I'm in a similar boat but can't say I have any tips - you probably know more. It all depends on the location, time, weather, toddler mood, etc. Had to call off several hikes for various reasons, so I guess flexibility is key.

I had a dream last night that there was a new popular form of music called Love Honk

Every song was basically just smooth jazz or soft rock instrumentals, but where the lead singer or main instrument should have been playing, there was just a loud, constant car horn.

Might even work for Me & Mrs. Jones ...

About the part where you were saying that people get British accents confused with Australian. I cant say from the perspective of an average US citizen, but as someone in the middle east, I couldn't tell the difference between American, British, and Australian accents (I'm a bit better now though). Simply because I didn't hear them often enough to distinguish them.

Similarly, I imagine some Americans don't get to hear Australian accents often.

Scientists Explain Why ‘Doing Your Own Research’ Leads to Believing Conspiracies vice.com/en/article/v7bjpm/sci…

“study published on Wednesday in Nature has found that using online search engines to vet #conspiracies can actually increase the chance that someone will believe it. The researchers point to a known problem in search called "#DataVoids." Sometimes, there's not a lot of high-quality information to counter misleading headlines or surrounding fringe theories”
