doesn't work on sciops.net... I wonder what my site is doing wrong
in reply to khm

mhmm, your instance is not emitting the website verification API it seems like. Can you validate a url in your profile? if you go in settings?
This entry was edited (2 years ago)
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

so it needs a rel="me" link on the website AND there's some kind of API contact that has to happen on the ActivityPub side? Almost certainly unsupported by snac2, if so. I thought the rel="me" link was enough. Nobody seems to care to document any of this...
in reply to khm

@khm I.. I.. can't read typescrit.

@khm
in reply to khm

@khm afaics, snac2 also has to provide a rel=me link to your site to make the link bidirectional. Not sure if you can hack it in somehow (do you have access to the html representation of your profile?)
@khm
in reply to sirjofri

yeah, could it be just a matter of adding the website in your profile?
This entry was edited (2 years ago)
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

@khm both links must be rel=me links, and link to the other side respectively

Oh that's great!! And is there an addon to improve the follow button to always redirect to a specific instance?

New change landing in Mastodon for Android soon! In user testing, people have expressed confusion over “why are all the handles so long?”

We're presenting handles on profile pages in a new style, with the username and server separated. Tapping the server will show you more details, along with a neat easter egg animation when you tap the rows.

@grishka did a phenomenal job on this animation 🙏

in reply to sam henri gold

very neat change! I am curious though - Is there any special handling for when multiple people are using the same handle within a single thread?
in reply to Hazelnoot

@hazelnoot Yes, when more than one person with the same username is mentioned in a post, the mentions render with the domain part visible.

What's that? A game without a season pass and $1000 of DLC AND it released on GOG without any DRM AND it's doing good? That should be impossible according to the "gaming industry" at large!

I love how much of a middle finger to the corporate mouthpieces this game is.

it's good to see! I hope it will keep picking up speed, and i hope people will remember Unity's strategy.

We’ve just published an update about this Mastodon trial which has been running for the last 6 months – you can read it here: bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2024-02-exte…

We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.

A little-advertised bridge just appeared between the Fediverse and Twitter founder Dorsey's new social network. It intends to bridge accounts that don't opt out.

Doing this as opt out is a pretty immoral thing to do. Also unclear how legal opt-out bridges are in some countries. The bridge is using these domains:

snarfed.org
brid.gy

Server admins may want to defederate these to prevent their members being bridged without their knowledge or permission.

One thing that you should learn about homegrown and feditips is that misrepresentation of information is something that they have done a lot and continue to do. Honestly in my opinion it's extremely unprofessional, maybe not the greatest idea to follow their advice.
in reply to Draconic NEO

@Draconic_NEO @minneyar Hmm yeah I'm starting to get the vibe. Admittedly I've never really heard of those until today. I suppose all that can be done is attempting to clarify the truth, which is what I hoped to do in my original reply.

in reply to Boris Mann

Thank you for this reflection. I think that's a really healthy attitude. Social media should be about meeting people where they are, not implicitly banning them until they join you in your tech choices. Anything that supports helping people connect as openly as possible is a good thing.

Compare to email. Yes, I would much prefer everyone to join me in hosting their email at a co-op with FLOSS tools. But in the meantime, I'm glad we can still email each other.

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr I'm not glad I'm mailed by spammers, so no we don't have to accept communication with people who's choices of tech already show that you might not want to connect with them.
Bridge is fine and all, but I personally wouldn't count on those connecting me with networks which don't really care about openness and federation.
Open doesn't mean to be open to those who don't want openness. Similar with tolerance.

Because fungal proteins are closer to animal proteins, fungi are an appropriate food for pets and humans. Koji and many fungal proteins contain all 10 canine essential amino acids in greater concentration than cow flesh.

We can grow fungi sustainably, using a fraction of the resources and land needed for cow, pig and chicken flesh - or even fish!
