May you be strong enough to keep doing and being all those things regardless. May you realize that on the other side of those disparaging actions is a person much like you.
But then it hit me that we're all both of these people one time or another, sometimes even to ourselves. And the poem is "wide" enough to encompass "all of us", from the pathological aggressor to the pathological victim and all the shades in between. Well done Mr. Ibrahim!

in reply to Muse • • •We are all always people. Even our worst enemies are people. Even the those committing genocide are people. This does not make cruel and destructive behaviour acceptable. The responsibility it places upon us is to find ways to rehabilitate and redeem them.
This may only be possible within a culture that is willing to provide safety nets for their most vulnerable, and provide equal justice regardless of a person's social status.
And even with all that help, a few may still slip through who are genuinely irredeemable, either through the severity of their trauma or biological issues that are affecting their brain. We may have to remove such people from the social sphere, but with as much compassion as possible. Norway has a good system for this.
In psychology there is a saying, "Hurt people hurt people." Children from abusive families often grow up to be abusive, and it gets passed from generation to generation. Be the one who stops the chain of trauma.
