I'd love to view this, but it's only available to people with "a valid business email address". So I guess individual users can go pound sand eh?

My new blog post is now up!

You can contribute to KDE with non-C++ code

I always see:

  • people being told they can contribute to KDE with C++/QML
  • people being told they can contribute to KDE without code

But I don't often see:

  • people being told that they can contribute to KDE with code that is not C++

I like C++, QML, and even CMake, but you might not be interested in them or you might just not be willing to spend time learning another language, and that's perfectly fine.

In this blog post I list a few KDE projects that you might not know about that might be written in your preferred language or in a specialized format you have expertise or interest in.

By far, the most popular programming language actively used in KDE other than the expected languages is Python.

We also have stuff that would interest sysadmins (containers), packagers (snap/flatpak) and web developers.

Sonny Piers BANNED From The GNOME Project #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/XhKWNBLCyw0
in reply to joostruis

@joostruis It's pretty well established that if you post about Lunduke on a Linux forum you're probably going to be banned. Whether or not you agree with that you shouldn't be surprised that it happened anymore.

Keep in mind it's just one Manjaro GNOME maintainer who decided that he wanted to get some attention by doing so.

A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!

The U.S. Senate's recent hearing: "The pressing need for comprehensive US federal data privacy and security laws in the context of AI cannot be overstated."

Is the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) enough? How will this affect the future of AI and LLMs?

I was exploring this exact question just last night. Currently, I use an attached storage volume on a VPS, but I'm looking at S3-compatible object storage. I like the prospect of lower fees and more flexible storage size options.

Regrettably, I will not be available for the webinar. Will there be a video afterward?

Seriously though, what the fuck is this article even going on about? Why are they trying to demonize EU for something perfectly normal?

Anyone who understands the architecture of operating systems know that 3rd party companies need access to kernel API to develop their software (especially device drivers).

It's about as stupid as the people who were freaking out about the EU forcing Apple to allow sideloading (what we call installing software on any other OS)

When #Ecuador's navy seized a Chinese-flagged ship off the #Galapagos in 2017, its hold brimmed with tons and tons of poached #fish including hammerhead and thresher #sharks. Today, the vessel has been repurposed for environmental patrols of those same waters, helping to hunt down predatory vessels of the kind it once was. It has also been renamed #Hualcopo for an Indigenous leader of centuries ago.

I remember a Google that had not been consumed by JavaScript brain worms. A Google where high-traffic services had to be fast; where folks competed to see who could make the smallest 404 page; byte golfing to win latency.

That Google, it seems, is gone. In its place, a login page comprised of 380K of JS (1.2MB unzipped) *on top* of 125K of HTML (687K unzipped) generating seconds of main-thread blockage on low-end devices:
