This video is so depressing.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

A YouTuber asked for feedback on their use of AI (Suno, it turns out) to create a custom song for their video.

They had a long defensive reply, but it included this propaganda they'd imbibed "If it learned the algorithms that creates music it is no different than any human that has learned music from their predecessors. " #FuckAI

in reply to Eugen Rochko

AI isnโ€™t making people dumber. Itโ€™s amplifying how people already think. Most people were never reflecting on their thinkingโ€”they were reacting and signaling. AI was meant to remove monotony and refine understanding, not replace cognition. But when that isnโ€™t how itโ€™s used, it becomes a tool for content and social signaling, just like social media. That dynamic accelerates fragmentation, not insight.

in reply to It's FOSS

something right would have been no AI. Just because we can turn it off doesn't mean we will always have that ability.

in reply to It's FOSS

this reminds me situation with CCleaner where hackers replaced download installation file and for few days people were downloading fake malware version of application.

breachspot.com/news/cyber-attaโ€ฆ

Such events show how important is security of servers where popular open source and free applications are stored.
Would be great if some anti hack/malware companies offered free options for FOSS developers. Or maybe they already provide and I'm not aware about it.

Adobe Is Ruthlessly Killing Off Software That Animators Around The World Are Using Every Day

On a page morbidly-titled "End of Life FAQ", the company writes:

Adobe Animate will no longer be available to download for new customers, beginning March 1, 2026. Enterprise customers can access the application, download their content, and receive technical support until March 1, 2029. For all other customers, technical support, application access, and the ability to download content will be available until March 1, 2027.

For me, the user experience of switching to Linux is like a step backwards in time by twenty or thirty years, compared to my (highly limited, UX-wise) Macbook experience. And I've been doing this stuff in some form since 1980. Professionally for a couple of decades. I may be willing to take the hit to get away from The Man (or, if you like, The Shit of The Man), but for most of my immediate friends and family, that's not in the cards. They just want their tablet and their phone and their apps and their streaming and their venmo etc. They want the cloud to do everything, and aren't worried or cognizant about the abuse, and mostly don't even want to talk about it. I mean, I want Machines of Loving Grace too, but, uh, yeah, how's that gonna work again?

Hello brains trust!

My fairy wand as the Wattle Fairy Godmother is more of a walking stick. It is both cute and badass! Don't mess with fairies with big wands! hehehe!

For seven years the ceramic bird glued to the top has held steady. Last year it came off. I asked people what to use in order to re-attach it. A particular glue was suggested as being extra tough. It was a two-step thingo. It lasted one day at the festival for which I needed it, but by late afternoon, someone pointed out that my bird was hanging by a gooey thread. So, I removed her before she could fall off and possibly break.

Does anyone here have any ideas how I can attach a ceramic bird to a rubber cap on a wooden staff?

in reply to Muse

I have a memory of hearing that people have used Ocotillo to make fences. I suppose, by using plate armor gauntlets to handle them. Anyway something like Willow sticks, the fences root in the soil and you have a living "barbed wire" barrier.

Muse reshared this.

i think that 99% of insults are pure projection.

the names people call you are the things they fear in themselves.

in reply to Shane

I don't know. I didn't think so until I read your post, and then I started to hope it. It is a nice idea, to think we can be nice to ourselves too.
in reply to Fionnรกin

@ephemeral

ah, well...that is something i struggle with, tbh. being nice to myself, i mean. i'm learning, but there's a lot of unlearning to do first & a lot of letting go.

may we all find that harmony and that peace ๐Ÿ˜€

What would you rather have governing your Mastodon server?

  • Human admin with tech skills (94%, 64 votes)
  • Deterministic admin bot managing voting systems (4%, 3 votes)
  • LLM admin agent trained on a written constitution (1%, 1 vote)
68 voters. Poll end: in 1 hour

in reply to Nathan Schneider

my top of brain answer would be a combo - automation with human escalation path...
in reply to Laura James

@Laura I imagine that too. A supervisable LLM manages decision processes, etc., and there is a deterministic way to shut it off or pause it.
in reply to Nathan Schneider

Depends on the LLM. If it can be trusted, then the last option. Otherwise, the middle option.
