reshared this

Made yesterday a couple very quick rough mockups of how lists on Mastodon could be extended to be public and/or used as starter packs. I think it could be one of the easiest way to share follow recommandations with a minimum of change from the bits Mastodon already has? (another could be being able to generate a CSV of a specific set of people and then share that to be imported, but thatโ€™s much more technical)

I know it is seemingly criminal to some to mention other social networks on Mastodon, however would like to mention I am on Bluesky at bsky.app/profile/joshuastrobl.โ€ฆ

Liam (Gaming on Linux) has been doing a lot of fantastic work creating / maintaining lists for gaming, Linux, and open source (yours truly is also on there). I would suggest using those to follow a bunch of people and filter down after that. Also be sure to ask Liam to add you on the list if you do Linux / OpenSource things!

There's some good stuff happening over at Bluesky. It's the first time in a while the community seems pretty excited and positive about something.

Liam @gamingonlinux put together a starter pack for Linux and open source accounts that you can use to get rolling.

Why is YouTube's Next Video button so big? Double-tapping to skip 10 seconds is like threading the needle. Which MBA-having middle manager has "numbers of videos loaded" as their KPI?
in reply to Annika Backstrom

I noticed this and that's what I suspect too. It's basically unusable these days โ€” the double-tap 10-second skip was one of the best features of youtube, but I guess it's 'not commercially viable'.

so, what do we do now? You have been a voice of realism these past few years. Is there any hope not built on a mountain of dead bodies?

Many of us have felt like we've been living under a police state since at least Reagan, and the Democrats have been happy to pile on. They certainly ran away from defund, even though the real referendum was and continues to be the working class economy. I'll thank the Democrats for some more liberal policies on environment and social justice, but those still take a backseat to the interests of capitalists. Plus we should think of authority globally.

They really are each other's best friend, as well as accomplices in crime. One of them will excavate the plants while the other is the lookout. Little Criminals.

"If you're tired of algorithms deciding what you see, Bluesky might be the relief you're looking for. Like Mastodon, Bluesky has no central algorithm feeding you posts based on some popularity contest. Instead, what you see comes from genuine engagement: posts gain visibility based on how many users like and "re-skeet" them (Bluesky's version of a retweet)."

Tell me you don't know what an algorithm is without telling me you don't know what an algorithm is.

Terrain3D is an incredible add-on for Godot 4. Thank you @TokisanGames !

This is part of R&D for Liblast and Liblast Framework.
Based on CGI data from #NASA, that was interpreted frivolously to an 8x8 km area and then sclupted over to add detail that was missing from the original textures.

So there's a kind of, tick-tock, feel to this, that won't be present in the final game, but I'm convinced is absolutely critical at this phase.

If your systems can't tick along this discretely, like a well-oiled clock, then they won't feel right once you cover them up with more ease/interp/curves๐Ÿญโš”

in reply to Megan Fox

Suffices to say I am very freaking happy with this. It's so crisp! There's a smooth turn toward each attack dir that SNAPS in when the movement frames actually begin, like a perfectly machined part snapping into place. That's what I want a combat system to be.

That's what DMC is, as a random example, but this also applies to a ton of fighting games.

(where say Veilguard, bless its heart, is more like controlling a bag of soft cheese)

in reply to Megan Fox

This looks really fun and responsive! This is very similar to what Iโ€™m going for in the game I just started on, except Iโ€™m doing 2D isometric. Iโ€™m enjoying your progress posts, keep โ€˜em coming!

unrelated, I would love if valve made half life 3 and portal 3 into an asymetric coop game where glados send chell to get ride of the rogue core aboard the ship, gather the sweet test data and maybe steal some black mesa tech data while Dr Freeman is here to get technology to... I lost the half life plot.

I coincidentally started reading Sara Horowitz's book 'Mutualism' last week and it's the one thing giving me cause for hope amid the statements of US lawmakers(!) claiming they're going to 'take a blowtorch' to the federal govt. and now, with the latest version of the Android app (2.9+), there are also new-post push notifications (they were missing from the app before, only via the browser I believe) like Twitter had.

Very useful for news profiles (without audio though).

It seems, feature-wise, Mastodon is the best Twitter replacement.

I reported the missing feature on GitHub for the android version: github.com/mastodon/mastodon-aโ€ฆ

probably you can do the same for iOS ๐Ÿ‘

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I'm working on adding Webmentions to my site which I'll then link to my official company account @heavyelementinc using brid.gy

My backend has a task queue system and my posts won't be "published" to Mastodon for at least 2 min after I actually make them live on my site (because I always end up having edits to make!)

in reply to Gardiner Bryant

@gardiner_bryant @heavyelementinc yeah moving stuff over to a cron to loop over i might do eventually now i at least have the working code to auto post
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

That's great! I see many people trying to cross-post here, even before the Twitter exodus. But they usually have much less activity here because they usually prioritize one over another.

That's not the case for you - you're very active here ๐Ÿ˜… Just hope that if cross-posting is easy to setup, maybe other users will also do the same.

This is why I'm a bit worried when I see users from Mastodon joining BlueSky.

Instead of blocking Chinese brands, let them to set up domestic factories โ€” like Toyota and Honda did.
