The fact that we have to pass right-to-repair laws says a lot about our unsustainable throw-away culture of ubiquitous plastics and electronics.
But if we *made* that culture, we can *unmake* it. Partly with legislation, partly changing consumer attitudes.
My (informal) phone survey said over 50% of folks would keep their phones longer if updates weren't forced by planned obsolescence.
People are ready for less consumerism.

Very interesting preprint by Ran Blekhman's lab (@blekhman): biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/20… on microbiomap.org/ , a resource integrating 168k human gut 16S samples for a global overview. Seems similar to microbeatlas.org/ , which combines >2 million samples (both 16S and WGS across all habitats)
Integration of 168,000 samples reveals global patterns of the human gut microbiome
Understanding the factors that shape variation in the human microbiome is a major goal of research in biology.bioRxiv

Got mainly high quality genomes without grinding anything up, including from >200 year old flies representing the oldest known specimens of Dmel, and reflecting its early days in northern Europe. Saw evidence for local genetic differentiation followed by homogenization. Learned new things about known selection genes like CHKov. Found new targets of strong recent selection like Ahcy.
