I’ve been plagued by frustration for so long now that our online spaces don’t provide sufficient tooling for shared negotiation, instead defaulting to blunt mechanisms for shutting things down.

Please be careful about "cut the parents some slack". You are absolutely right that it is hard to be a parent, and schools usually don't have helpful curriculums in this regard. However, when this is said to people suffering from the actions of a dysfunctional family, it often results in shutting them down when they are asking for help. It can look like you are unwilling to consider that they may be suffering at the hands of their family elders.
