Why does Europe need the Digital Markets Act enforced NOW?

There is strong public support for the enforcement of our laws and curtailing the abuses of #BigTech. It is crucial for the future of Europe and that is why we think it's time to act.

@Montag

They accuse the petitioners of demanding something that they have never demanded and point out negative effects that will never occur. Why are you doing this? Why doesn't the VGE argue honestly? Are they afraid that if they put forward the real arguments, their business model will collapse?

We are increasingly moving towards a world in which I have to buy a new cooking pot every 2 years because the manufacturer has developed a new model and thus deactivated the old one...

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

If people were smart, they would stop buying AAA games, or even better, pirate them, if we can't legally own our games, then might as well go Yarr Harr Harr on their asses

Note: Piracy it's a completely valid way of boycott

This is pretty much why Grimm and I did not have kids.
in reply to Muse

As a professional, the mother of my child made more than I. I became a stay-at-home dad for the first six years of my kid's life because after doing the arithmetic it was the best choice. Mind you, we live in the United States of America where unwealthy lives are utterly disposable and eminently replaceable. Still, we got by while childless C-level a**holes making six figures marveled at how we managed to not only get by but stay out of debt (it's called a spreadsheet, you fscking over-privileged morons.)

Inspired by some tech bro saying their algorithm found this writing so awful it couldn't process it. I decided to have a read. It's wonderful. Well written and interesting.

What's more. It made me think about door knobs and handles. Everywhere I've ever lived has had handles. To the point I've always thought lever style door handles were the norm. Door knobs are rare. So rare, that at a friend's house recently. I couldn't work out how to open the front door...

"The 1950s is an idealized era in the American imagination, and also an era of great prosperity. But there is also has a dark reality behind the shiny facade - alcoholism, abuse, depression and repression - and a regimented social and legal structure that relegated housewives to the status of indentured servitude."

I would say yes and no. There were definitely fewer societal options for women then, better now..but still not totally genderless....

Many of the women of the 1950's had been Rosie The Riveters just a few years earlier.

vi can't be simple, even old farts who worked with it for decades are sometimes lost with how it works, it just doesn't care about you potentially making mistakes while using it, being efficient with it requires strong discipline for little reward, it's not like it's the only text editor around...
