experiment exploring #MandelbrotSet #fractals #MathArt adding layers of cauliflowers to mini mandelbrots by choosing where to zoom

zoom of the second one with 8 layers is about 1e44, didn't save the zoom level of the first (with 3 layers)

I think I can generalize the way I found them (I constructed specific external angles expressed as periodic binary exansions, and traced their external rays towards the minibrots)

I had this exact conversation with my boss and co-worker the other night. :KEKW:

Dandelion BASIC Devlog.

I feel like giving up on this attempt at Dandelion BASIC.

The file is now 17KB full of bare metal assembly. Having to break this up into files now is going to be a nightmare to manage.

Assembled, I am looking at about 1.3K ROM/Arduino flash used.

Looking at the different C++ implementations, even they max out at thousands of lines of code.

I need to figure out exactly what it is I am chasing when I try and put all this effort into something crazy like another BASIC.

in reply to '(vidak) _(:3」∠)_

Wow, that's a lot of space. As a baseline, Sunflower basic is 6000 bytes and has a full graphical system and font included. Do you know why it's so large?

Edit: Oh right, I just realized, assembly is very wordy.. yeah okay, I can see it.

Dear Fedi friends,

Next week I have the honor of doing a presentation advocating for the Fediverse in a really prestigious venue (I can't share more now, but I will after it takes place).

I'm currently working on slides and I would love to hear testimonies from YOU. Why the Fediverse is so special to you in contrast to Big Tech platforms (bonus points if you speak French & can reply en français).

I'll share a selection of your testimonies in my slideshow presentation.

Merci beaucoup ❤️

@Gargron No - Unless the fact I say it's "sale of goods" is what you mean by that?
in reply to JenJen

That could be the problem. Sale of goods goes under "Reason for export". I'd put "FOB" under "Terms of sale (Incoterm)". That might prevent this from happening in the future.

In the worst case, I think some BSD flavours are still supporting it in a way or another; at least nominally NetBSD has it as minimal requirement.

Watching Fedi and the world react to the US president go absolutely unhinged in public, threatening war crimes as his cognitive grip disintegrates before our eyes, watching the horror and the outrage…there is something I want to tell you from Minneapolis.

And I’m not sure how, and I’m not sure if I can, but I want to try. People are always thanking us and calling us heroes and asking us for some kind of…something, anything we can offer in the face of the authoritarian march, and well, here it is, here is something, if I can figure out how to say it.

You don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know what to do. You feel powerless. Nothing you can do seems like it could possibly be enough.

And then the work is there, on your doorstep, in your hands, and you •just do it• because that is what you do.

Nobody is coming to save you. The choice is ourselves or nothing. The moment you believe that, that you •know• it in your bones, is the moment the work truly begins.

My fellow people of the United States, if I have anything to teach from what Minneapolis just lived through, it is this:

Nobody is coming to save us.

Not Congress. Not the courts. Not the ICC or the EU or NATO. Not the generals or the rank and file. Not the press. Not the markets. Not the elections. Not some mythical version of “The People” that materializes out of nowhere as some messianic external force.

We’re it. We’re all we’ve got. If we don’t stop fascism from completely engulfing the US, then nobody stops it.

We had a new sail made and cut the old one into panels, a few were bad, some were good, we gave some away to friends on other boats, and we'll reuse some for various projects.

I needed a liner for my backpack[1], and dacron is the perfect material for that!

I implemented @neauoire@merveilles.town 's Rejoice, in Perl for some reason 😀

This was attempt like 3? I vaguely remember reading a Moore quote about "writing, rewriting, and rewriting again". I follow that advice religiously

I absolutely hate writing parsers, and yet invariably end up having to write a parser. This is probably the best one I've done but its still a bit of a mess!

The only difference I can spot between my implementation and the UXN one is that mine can't differentiate between [x x x] and x^3 (it always uses the latter). This means that things like [ .x .x .x ] will only print a single x (I'm not sure what the intended behaviour is for that case anyway tbh?)

patpatpat.xyz/data/rejoice.pl/

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Ah yeah that makes sense, it feels a lot more intuitive that way

Ooh I didn't even think about optimisations. Do you mean that x^10 'y/x would become y^10/x^10? (i.e., from an anonymous label draining x, to a fraction producing y^10)

Its crazy that "optimising a program" could just be "simplifying fractions"

in reply to pat

yeah, instead of looping 10 times, you get how many times the num fits in the den, and apply it once 😀 Reduces cycles a LOT!

Obama made a decision to “look forward” rather than prosecute the architects of the GWB torture program.

That kind of impunity can seem expedient, but it’s morally offensive and bad for democracy.

If Dems should find their way back to power (?), the criminality of Trump and Co. will need to be prosecuted. Political (democratic) legitimacy demands it.

One possibility is outsourcing. Hand perps over to the international courts and let them mete out justice.

ICC, if you’re listening…
