Coin from Gomphi (350BC-306BC) showing thunderbolt symbol and a large "rock". Is Zeus sitting upon a large iron meteorite?

Compare with Figure 3 of von Dalberg's "On the Meteor Cults of the Ancients," showing Goddess sitting upon an iron meteorite.

NASA’s Terra and Aqua satellites helped meteorologists determine that marine stratocumulus clouds are relatively common.

On average, they cover ~15% of Earth’s total surface.
#NASAEarth

Organized marine stratocumulus clouds, found in the subtropics and midlatitudes, take two forms; open-celled and closed-cell.

Recent studies have found that smoke, dust, and aerosols can affect the formation of open- and closed-cell clouds.

Wont to thank the people who support these instances and the #OMN project. Though we currently only cover half the running costs and both of our mastodon instances are overloaded so might sometimes slow down campaign.openworlds.info

So we need a few more people to make regular monthly donations to keep the instances running opencollective.com/open-media-…

We are an unfunded grassroots group, so it is obviously much harder for use to fund the instances you use than more #mainstreaming instances to receive much more user support.

We need to cover basic running cost, then we need to upgrade all instances to cover new users opencollective.com/open-media-…

I've got to respect the marketing mind of the Musk, get rid of the free API, and scare people with an incredibly high price ($100+) so they freak out, knowing nobody would actually pay it. Then offer a lower price which doesn't seem that bad but is higher then where you started

Instead of just dropping random ideas here and there.

It's a simple trick you see mobile games commonly use called Anchoring, you offer one price that seems outrageous for gems, then you offer a discounted price that makes it seems like you're losing money if you don't spend right now en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchorin…
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I see this all the time in online stores, a base price crossed out that has probably never been real, and a discounted price under it
in reply to Brodie Robertson

It must be really going well when a business takes a chapter from the marketing strategies of one of the most scummy industries...
in reply to Brodie Robertson

isn't that the second time he's done that? Something with Stephen King?

@tokudan I believe you're talking about the original Twitter Blue price, if I recall yes he did the exact same thing

Every year, many anonymous Twitter accounts call the two days of the general college entrance exams "Opportunity for Groping Girls on the Train Day," because these students cannot miss the exams and won't report groping to the conductors or the police. Disgusting isn't it?

I liked this Media Indigena episode that focuses on how tourism is pushing out Indigenous people and forcing assimilation, including Hawai'i and Oaxaca. I think about a lot, as someone who grew up in a tourism town and who likes to travel. If you don't like listening to podcasts, this has a link to an article along this same theme.

Born in 1883, Elmer Samuel Imes was the 2nd Black American to receive a physics PhD in the U.S.

His pioneering experimental work measured of the rotational–vibrational spectra of diatomic molecules.

Imes faced many obstacles bc of his race & blazed trails in science for many who followed. He was also interested in how science & culture intersect & married Nella Larsen, a great writer of the Harlem Renaissance. He passed away in 1941. physicstoday.scitation.org/doi… #history #science #HistoryRemix

I use my own Nexcloud box for more than 5 years. It is really great. One thing I don't understand is how the AppImage, without automatic updates support, is a good choice for linux desktop app? Do I really have to run around home to re-install desktop apps on all laptops and desktops at home (3+2), each time new version is released?
