If you're curious about this stuff (but don't necessarily want to do it yourself!) I'd recommend reading *The Rise of the Ultra Runners* by Adharanand Finn, which includes his experience of running a 24 hour track race in London

It looks like the current, tenuous consensus among coop members is to treat Meta as a threat and defederate for now, drafting a set of terms that we expect Meta to meet in order for us to consider federation at all.

Not to spam, but I've been working towards drafting a "Federation Charter" of sorts that outlines the terms for federating with other servers and establishes a code to hold ourselves to. It's a rough draft and unfinished, but I'd invite folks to take a look:

in reply to Fenn Martyn

I like this approach. I think the key is building a network of instances that endorse some such set of principles and practices.

Maybe time for a gathering of the democratically-run instances?

@danwchan

in reply to Matt Noyes

I can't commit to organizing this summer/fall but I'll participate in anything on the Loomio in preparation for something

@fenndev are you in that subgroup on Loomio? There is a bot in it that will also send messages over matrix so sharing the charter you have been working in in a thread may be a good way to get some new eyes over it

mine is the same. I must get 200 emails a day offering "guest posts", cheap tat to review, scam sponsorship offers and plenty more. I've even started getting people trying to sell me their various services like video editing by telling me I'm an amateur with wasted potential! Amazing sales technique!

Hi. No, I actually haven't really followed this project so far. Currently, I am unfortunately very busy at work and often do not succeed in responding to everyone. But after work I like to read through the Fediverse and follow interesting personalities, on the one hand to see what's going on in OpenScience, FOSS and related topics, but also to see how the Fediverse is developing.

BSDs are important to the Internet. Some enterprises do use it for there servers, the main one being Netflix.

Its license did help BSDs to grow. It allowed company like Apple, Sony or Nintendo to base their OS on it, not that they contribute back.

Also, most BSDs project have clear structure and goals. The whole OS is designed by one group of person with specific goals in mind. They have a much more developed software engineering culture.

As I said on Twitter

I would like to share your opinion and data, but not with Google and others.
Why is this happening under Nextcloud?
Especially in the public sector, it is difficult for me to make statements here.

Unfortunately, from our investigations, it looks like your Google Analytics, etc issue lays with third-party Capterra, and out of our control.. You could consider an alternative review site that's mildly cleaner if you're still willing to share a review, which we would love to receive from you:

So, you send me a newsletter from YOU with a link which goes to the survey platform. And after I complain about the trackers there, is that YOUR answer?
Please take a look at your newsletter and please use the platforms without tracking, which you have now found.

Ever since doing the initial completion support in #phosh 's osk-stub I wanted to add a generic "unix pipe" like completer. phosh-osk-stub would feed the program preedit on stdin and read the completions from the program's stdout.

That is there now and with that and some more changes I can use @zachdecook 's #swipeGuess to do swipe like typing. To be clear: all the hard work is done by swipeGuess, phosh-osk-stub just piggy backs on it:

“The LLMentalist Effect: how chat-based Large Language Models replicate the mechanisms of a psychic’s con” by @baldur

It is a long read but I feel does a good job of discussing how LLMs are more interested in truthiness than admitting when they don’t know.

Here @eevee does a good job breaking down how users *thinking* an LLM response is good is *not* the same as the response being good (nor correct):
github.com/mdn/yari/issues/923…

(As before, please refrain from piling on in the comments.)

This entry was edited (2 years ago)

Last month I argued why ‘AI’ will not fix #accessibility:
adrianroselli.com/2023/06/no-a…

As if to prove my point, #UserWay launched a broken LLM:
FuxMyCode.ai/

Yet the sorta-press shills nonsense like this PR from #AudioEye:
web.archive.org/web/2023070315…

Pay attention to who promotes LLMs as a solution. Usually it is a money play or laziness.
