Kaechele's performance art work was clearly effective. It was meant to create the experience of being excluded, as well as included. That experience was part of the man's ticket. Art is meant to challenge. He was challenged.

MONA defends ladies-only lounge against anti-discrimination case brought by male visitor

"The 'ladies-only' lounge in Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) is a place of quiet contemplation for people who identify as women, set among fine art and velvet furniture. But it's become the subject of an anti-discrimination case, brought by a male visitor – resulting in a tribunal hearing that became a scene of performance art."

@Muse I didn't know about the Guerrilla Girls, but I see that they're great. Women have always had a difficult time in every area of human life - except in some historical circumstances, and cultures.

First scans of Silbersalz arrived. It's motion picture film (really, it's Kodak Vision3 in different packaging) developed in ECN-2. It is impressive how fine the grain is. But their lab processing time is much slower than I expected.

@luis_in_brief @inquiline @signalapp I love the idea of taking old messages private—but for me, not for public figures I want to criticize:)
in reply to Luis Villa

@luis_in_brief @ntnsndr @inquiline @signalapp I might be mistaken, but I think Lurk does this out of necessity to keep their storage costs down. @rra, isn't that the case?

I know folks (including Lurk folks) who argue that we really ought to remove the expectation that messages will live forever, so that we can reduce the environmental impact of the fedi.

We’re seeking input from #FOSS maintainers as we design a fellowship program pilot. We want to test a support mechanism that addresses structural issues in the FOSS ecosystem, and support maintainers who work on open digital infrastructure in the public interest.

If you maintain open source projects, we would be very grateful if you could take ten minutes to respond to the survey:

Please also repost and share with FOSS maintainers you know. Thanks!

it's just as "locked" to the valve eco system as Windows is to the Microsoft store. There are lots of ways to play games from other stores on the Steam Deck.

As an update to this: One of the videos Playtron supplied to The Verge, showcasing it on mobile, wasn't even their own and was taken uncredited from another person on YouTube, who hit them with a copyright claim and had it taken down. Not a good look.

@BrodieOnLinux @I_have_a_technology like the CCS charging handle is as big as a cellphone, now imagine trying to line it up so it will plug in, in darkness or with a stiff cable. it’s doable, but as someone who previously had a tesla, it is sn’t very convincing 😂

@BrodieOnLinux @I_have_a_technology it was partially that, but also partially that the standard the industry came up with after years of bikeshedding is absolutely terrible. the giant adapter i have to use to connect to tesla chargers speaks for itself tbh

Do electric cars really produce fewer carbon emissions than petrol or diesel vehicles?

The Guardian 23 December 2023

"We also need to take into account the future of the technologies. Auke Hoekstra, an energy transition researcher at the Eindhoven University of Technology, said emissions from fossil fuel cars cannot fall much further, meaning they are not a viable technology for a zero-emissions world. Yet battery development is still in relative infancy, and is likely to tip the balance further in favour of electric cars..."

"The scientific consensus is overwhelming: on any realistic like-for-like comparison a battery car will be cleaner than its petrol or diesel equivalent. Burning fossil fuels to make and drive electric cars will still cause emissions, but at a lower level than inefficient fossil fuel engines."

This is an article from the MIT climate portal featuring guest expert Sergey Paltsev, Deputy Director of the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change. It is over a year old and already many things have changed. Most critically batteries no longer need to be made using either Lithium or Cobalt. Cars are already available with sodium batteries. And people like myself are powering our cars using our home solar panels.

Are electric vehicles definitely better for the climate than gas-powered cars?

“We shouldn't claim victory that with this switch to electric cars, problem solved, we are going to have zero emissions,” he says. “No, that's not the case. But electric cars are actually much, much better in terms of the impact on the climate in comparison to internal combustion vehicles. And in time, that comparative advantage of electric cars is going to grow.”

in reply to Muse

I use feet. The only "emissions" are purely organic. 😉

Monthly blogging is really a great way to make one's organization's activity visible.

I do it since end-2019, for near 5 years now, for #OpenPrinting:

openprinting.github.io/news/

And since end-2022 when I joined Mastodon I am announcing each issue here.

Caused a lot of attention ...

in reply to Till Kamppeter

@till There's also this symbiotic relationship, if you write a blog post or post about issues on mastodon, not only will people see it from you but it will also be covered to Linux news outlets and youtubers
