Born in 1894, physicist Marietta Blauโ€™s research led to a way to capture the tracks of speeding subatomic particles.

In 1937, Blau & Hertha Wambacher made a discovery that launched the field of particle physics. But she was forced to pause her work in 1938 bc of the Nazis.

Blau was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize but never won. Cecil F. Powell later built on her work & earned the Nobel Prize in Physics. sciencehistory.org/stories/magโ€ฆ #history #science #historyremix

Laying off an entire team because their manager wouldn't lay of a large chunk of the team to cut costs is the sort of penny wise, pound foolish portrayal of tech you'd expect from HBO's Silicon Valley not a company that the market calls one of the "Magnificent Seven".

Very happy to announce that @tomcoates and I have been given a #SummerOfProtocols grant to develop an end-to-end encryption (E2EE) protocol for #ActivityPub DMs, including a reference implementation and a report to submit to the W3C SocialCG.

Yeah starting to think that the "DDoS issue" is less of a problem with Mastodon itself and more of a problem with the sites themselves

Why AI is Doomed to Fail the Musical Turing Test

youtube.com/watch?v=N8NyEjB_Xeโ€ฆ

in reply to Eugen Rochko

This was a good video.

I certainly hope to see more creativity and ingenuity from our collective output. But I'm not sure if the "whatever" approach to all that isn't enticing enough to overshadow our best work. Spotify is a great example for that:

I love music. I used to compose and perform it religiously, but today (now that my priorities have shifted), I find myself hitting the "DJ" button more and more.

I find it hard to stay optimistic on this topic, unfortunately.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I suspect people are just responding to social cues when they judge whether music (or anything else for that matter) is good or bad.

We launched Hub 8! ๐ŸŽ‰

in reply to Nextcloud ๐Ÿ“ฑโ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ’ป

For next hub, could we reconnect with humans instead of AI? Social app (increase bond to fediverse), connect Talk to matrix network, conditional form... to help human exchange ideas and organise them. These would be new features!
Nextcloud hub is really cool but could open up a little to become even more attractive.
AI working for humans isn't a new thing, computers have been invented to compute algorithm on our behalf.
in reply to Nextcloud ๐Ÿ“ฑโ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ’ป

When will Nextcloud's release announcements #RegainControl of where their videos are hosted?

So far you've chosen to keep them silo'd off on a #proprietary, #centralized, non #privacy friendly #surveillance platform, ie #Google's #YouTube.

Is this what #Nextcloud / #NextcloudHub stands for?

So far, the repeated silence on this subject has spoken louder than any release announcement.

I've noticed that when sharing links to my own website, but I thought this was more of a me-problem with the sites performance.

I mostly play old time and bluegrass music. Particularly in old time and fiddle songs, the songs have a fairly rigid and repetitious structure. That's not to say players don't do interesting things with it, but unless a song is intentionally crooked, the structure of the song remains the same throughout. A typical structure is AABB. That is, play the "A part" twice, play the "B part" twice, and repeat.
