Great article! I hated PE as a kid. Other activities I have always enjoyed doing, I suppose because they didn't strike me as exercise--just fun. I like dancing, singing, long walks in nature (be sure to check these links!). Years later and I'm still recovering from having my back fractured. I am good at keeping at my exercises, because I keep turning them into dance-steps and do them to my favourite music. Walking involves saying "hi" to many of the neighbours, patting all the dogs being taken for a walk, and ends with a lovely cup of tea at my favourite cafe. So, things are getting better. And I feel emotionally better when I do them.

Running or yoga can help beat depression, research shows – even if exercise is the last thing you feel like

in reply to Muse

I am so sorry you had to experience that. PE can be sadistic.
As the new kid the other students would often gang up on me during dodgeball in order for them all to throw their balls at me at the same time. I'd come home bruised every time.
in reply to Muse

On the other hand, I loved fencing in college. Maestro Markie was strict, but he taught us step-by-step, different parries and maneuvers over the semester.

auspol, gambling

abc.net.au/news/2024-02-16/zer…

absolutely disgusting. you can't watch sports with your kids without being drowned in celebrity endorsed ads, teenagers are being encouraged to do "harmless" quick bets on the melbourne cup by their peers, keno is in every pub, and the albo government's response is "well, we made them put a single sentence at the end of the ads"

the labor government took around $13 million in lobbying money from the gambling industry in 2020, by the way

i cannot overstate my disappointment when i learned as a kid that the RSL's gaming rooms didn't contain a single xbox

Thanks for highlighting it, I think it has some very useful things to learn or repeat to yourself. Especially when online stuff gets heated. I know you have covered a few of those situations.

Holy cow, this is bad - check out the nonsensical figures in this review: completely generated in Midjourney (!!), not even re-labeling the gibberish text labels (!!!).

This was published by Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, where the editorial office should have caught this and nuked it from orbit. Wow.

Edit: It's been retracted 3 days after publication and 1 day after it blew up. That was quick.

I love the colour and composition of this picture! AND IT'S FUNNY TOO!
in reply to Muse

I guess that folks these days are so attuned to their phones that they could catch a shot like that "from the hip". If you have a hungry gull stalking your ice cream it's a photo waiting to happen.
in reply to Muse

The photo may have been larger. The seagull may have already made lunges at the ice cream. Someone then would catch the shot, trimmed down to the action, then brightened the colour. Easy.

Cool idea, but they are charging $200 a piece for what's essentially a 3d printed frame, an ImageMagick script, and an email vacation responder.

That's a great photo. I love how the color is "the same but different" all around giving it a "it's a color photo, but it's not" vibe.

Keep it up.

So apparently the term "patch" in software development comes from punched paper tape.

"Small corrections to the programmed sequence could be done by patching over portions of the paper tape and re-punching the holes in that section."

I guess the industry just feels like they can get more money out of us here in selling the games one by one.

For years, the M1 has only supported OpenGL 4.1. That changes today – with our release of full OpenGL® 4.6 and OpenGL® ES 3.2! 🎉

Unlike the vendor’s drivers, our open source Linux drivers are conformant to the latest OpenGL versions, finally promising broad compatibility with modern OpenGL workloads, like Blender, Ryujinx, and Citra.

This is how Germans see it: poor Israel army must shoot Palestinians in #Gaza because bad Hamas uses them as shields.

No snipers murdering women and children, no planes dropping 1,000 kg bombs on tents, no destruction of infrastructure by IDF, no nothing on genocide.

Look at the photo and you understand @Bundesregierung and @APoD , this is their world, 100,000 dead and insured or international law or human rights don't happen there. Only Israeli propaganda.
