Poking around Kāwā Bay Beach. It was a nice stop to be alone for a little while. A freshwater spring bubbles up right by the beach. #hawaii #nature

"The time has come to stop, to stay in one place — if not a home, then at least a long-term refuge or bolt-hole — and shape a different sort of life, no longer peripatetic but persistently still."

It isn't much of a stretch to imagine Bill Gates necrotic ass on Epstein's island. His company's OS is data raping children every day.

I love Valheim, but many games have come and gone from early access to full completion in the time they take to add a another biome lol

Looking forward to finally completing this one though. We ended up just stopping at Ashlands so we don't run out of gameplay, had a similar issue in Enshrouded but at least that game will go 1.0 later this year!

Genuinely surprised that #CachyOS keeps on trucking. I figured it would've plateaued by now.

I'm not sure how widely the handheld edition is used, else I'd be inclined to say that it's eating some #SteamOS.

But who knows. I don't know anything anymore.

TL;DR It's an open source IDE/ATAPI emulator. It takes disk images from microSD and present them as real IDE hard drives or ATAPI CD-ROM drives.

Recommended follow for nature-interested people: I was lucky enough to get a walking tour of marine life in Co. Clare from @Cormac_McGinley in 2024. I really recommend it if you ever get a chance – he knows a stunning amount about coastal life.

He also has a TV show on the Irish language national TV station, TG4: tg4.ie/en/player/categories/to…

I’ve been saying for decades that they paint themselves into very dark corners. I’d feel sorry for them if they didn’t do so much harm to everyone else. Unfortunately, there’s no way to help them find the light. They each have to find it for themselves, and most don’t.

2. Have you seen/tried any of the last versions of #Nano?

all of these except for "MS Edit" have more features and thus a greater learning curve than Nano. Wouldn't that make them more complicated than Nano, not less?

scathing: "This method, conclusion first, reasons afterwards, has always been in high favour with the human race: you write down at the outset the answer to the sum; then you proceed to fabricate, not for use but for exhibition to the public, the ciphering by which you can pretend to have arrived at it."

this lecture is .. I think brutal is the best way I can describe it. It holds back no punches against the opponents of marvelous pursuits who'd wish to commodify it all. I've read it listening to Angelic Process and I read this in my head as a banshee scream:

> The complexity of the universe is infinite, and the days of a man’s life are threescore years and ten. One lifetime, nine lifetimes are not long enough for the task of blocking every cranny through which calamity may enter. And say that we could thus triumphantly succeed in the attempt at self-preservation; say that we could thus impregnably secure the necessaries of existence; even then the true business of life is not so much as begun.

"Absolute security for existence is unattainable, and no wise man will pursue it; for if we must go to these lengths in the attempt at self-preservation we shall die before ever we have begun to live."

@neauoire ah that's brutal. norns oled was totally fine luckily, i think the grid could survive some serious extremes

actually the worst was trying to cram all the power cables from the PA back into a bag, they were so stiff they would not bend, just a big nest of daggers

I had this feeling when I noticed I could just change +1 and -1 to foo and (complement foo) in a hopfield network, which is an implementation of (is dual to) deep learning (it turned out; they didn't know this originally).

Then, all the conventional wisdom about the disadvantages and advantages of deep learning seem to mostly have been artifacts of the string encoding being used.

@neauoire
what should I read about your connexions (or dare I say, neurons!)?

in reply to screwlisp

I wrote about it a bit here: wiki.xxiivv.com/site/neural_ne…

I realized that it could power a sort of "smart highlight" that runs the thoughts of program, a bit like livecoding, but it's only a work in progress at the moment:
youtube.com/watch?v=nIlwdTIbTI…
youtube.com/watch?v=b2Tg7RPBve…

This is all heavily inspired by Minski's work in Finite & Infinite Machines.
