Prolonged heavy rains in northern Australia set off new plant growth across Channel Country.
More vegetation grew in areas like the Lake Eyre Basin, seen in these enhanced-color images from @nasa’s Terra satellite.

Well, I'm over it now.
I wasn't even interested in an academic career. But when a professor asks if you want to go for a doctorate, you say "Hell, yes!"
After a year, I was ready to admit this wasn't for me. And another year to figure out what to do instead. (I also needed that time to finally stop running away from other issues, but that's another story.)
When I tell you that your favorite VCs sit around in chat rooms with nazis, you think I'm joking. 🤷🏿♂️

Woke means Black. It's a Black saying.
Passing a law called "Stop woke" or saying "I'm anti-woke!" is equivalent to passing a law called "Stop Shabat Shalom" or "Stop Ni-Hao," but then trying to claim that you are not anti-semitic or sinophobic. It makes no sense.
Most of these VCs, writers, and politicians are irredeemably racist, and hate you on a visceral level.
Richard Hanania, Rising Right-Wing Star, Wrote For White Supremacist Sites Under Pseudonym
Hanania is championed by tech moguls and a U.S. senator, but HuffPost found he used a pen name to become an important figure in the “alt-right.”Christopher Mathias (HuffPost)
When you say "No, anti-woke doesn't mean anti- Black! It also means [things that aren't Black] too!" that's like saying "No, anti-Shabat Shalom isn't anti-semitism! They hate [group that isn't Jewish] too!"
Because woke means Black. Woke is a Black saying. Saying that you are anti-woke means that you are anti-Black.
And racists and Nazis hate Black people, Jewish people, women, LGBTQIA people, and many other marginalized groups. Racist men do not care about your reproductive rights.
If you know that these anti-woke people are anti-black racists, with dangerous white supremacist and eugenicist beliefs, who are trying to enable ethnic cleansing to create a whites only ethnostate, and you support them anyway? You are deplorable.
If in 2023, you still don't realize what these dudes believe, and that they are serious in trying to implement it, and you let these racists decide how Black history should be taught, and how Black people should be allowed to vote? You are misguided.
The @pixelfed account danger zone, soon with account migration support!
Wondering if I should limit migrations to Pixelfed servers, or allow Mastodon/Firefish 🤔

A reminder that the Detroit police department is still running hopelessly flawed facial recognition software against a database of mugshots built up over generations of racially biased policing.
They keep arresting the wrong people — and the victims are always Black.

"For over 700 years, the Japanese have been using a special method called Daisugi (台杉) to grow trees without cutting them down. It started in the 14th century and involves planting trees for the future and then pruning them like large bonsai trees. By doing this to cedar trees, they can get high-quality wood that's straight, smooth, and perfect for building.
"With Daisugi, instead of chopping down the trees, they carefully prune them so they can keep growing and producing wood. This way, they can sustainably use the wood while also making sure the trees stay healthy and continue to live for a long time. Daisugi shows how people and nature can work together, using resources wisely while protecting the environment."
