narrowboatworld.com/14916-net-โ€ฆ the mess we have made on the water from 40 years of worshipping neoliberalism. The experiment has failed, and this ideology is dead. When do we lift our heads #climatchaos #deathcult
in reply to hamish campbell

It appears to me that the logic does not follow? Help me understand.

My understanding is that neoliberalism is characterised by free markets, deregulation, privatization, globalization, individualism, and monetary policy.

Neither neoliberalism nor climate caused changes to building codes to ensure new buildings are safer or inflation driven largely by authoritarian covid lockdowns and command and control economic actions by western nations taken as a result, and I'm unsure of how neoliberalism or climate change would be the cause of lower than expected donations.

Realistically, the past 50 years have seen many waterways get much much better in the west.

in reply to sj_zero

@sj_zero

Under capitalism (and neoliberalism is extreme capitalism) everything has a price, and thus must be paid for. In general, waterways are "commons" thus do not have prices for meany things, or are cross subsidized by meany stakeholders. Over the last 40 years we have tried (and often failed) to bring this "price logic" to enclose the water "commons" this is going through a new wave in the UK lead by #CRT and #mainstreaming thinking.

It's making a mess.

One of the reasons I like arthropods more than vertebrates, is there is just so much more diversity. You can read about a new weird bug or sponge every day for the rest of your life. With vertebrates it's just like everything is either a cute fuzzy, scary fuzzy, ugly skin creature or lizard/snake/toad/fish(kinda cute)

Mammals especially are boring.

And I'm confidently thinking such thoughts and then I run into this.

Is it even real?
I take it all back.

Quite a finding (albeit not a conclusion) from the NYTimes here, challenging visual investigations by other outlets that previously suggested a rocket in a specific clip was the one that hit the Gaza hospital.

There are *seven bylines* on this piece. nytimes.com/2023/10/24/world/mโ€ฆ

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr just so I understand: is the suggestion that the NYTimes is deferential to US military interests, or the opposite?

(I ask because this piece is *challenging* the U.S. militaryโ€™s own conclusions)

in reply to Jack Jenkins

Ah I misread the basics! But really in either case, despite being generally a guilty NYT fan, it is in these times of brewing war that I find it hardest to trust.

This piece of insanity is from Rossini's "Sins of Old Age". It is played by Alessandro Marandoni. Is you listen closely you start to hear these strange noises. They slowly become more frequent and louder. These noises are in fact Marandoni improvising the sounds of a parrot. Good for a giggle!

Maybe there were to a remastered recording by digitally enhancing those notes, the gramophone voice wasnโ€™t applied to the same, with the sheet-music

I really don't understand AMD on this one. They already have linux versions of their drivers, going so far as to actively better their performance in linux in an open source way. So why exclude this? The biggest part of it is the AI model, something that shouldn't (to my knowledge) be difficult to port to Linux, so why not just port the interface to linux?

Heck, if they release a cli tool and properly document it, I'm sure the FOSS community will make GUIs on their own.

in reply to Brodie Robertson

which is completely dumbfoundibg me because if anything #AI is predominantly developed, tested, trained ans run on #Linux...

And we're not talking about some #bloatware GUI App but basic #drivers.

@gpuopen , do something!
