Experience the Launch of NASA’s PACE Mission nasa.gov/general/experience-th… #NASA #General

One of the world’s longest-running experiments has been going for 144 years!

In 1879, botanist William Beal wanted to study how long buried seeds would remain viable. He buried bottles w different seeds in a secret spot on Michigan State's campus.

Every 20 yrs, a small group scientists dig up the bottles & seeds continue to germinate 🌱 (My husband @DavidLowry is the one on the right).

The paper from their last dig is now out so this #science story is back in the news. yahoo.com/news/discovery-insid…

The recent excitement surrounding Thread's arrival on the Fediverse is concerning. To understand why this is not a good idea, consider their economic interest in harvesting data, their poor moderation, and their manipulations. Nothing good can come from their federation. Don't roll out the red carpet for them.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) is now open source gamingonlinux.com/2023/12/amd-…

#AMD #FSR #OpenSource #FOSS #GameDev

in reply to Dynsks

@Dynsks it can't, FSR3, just like FSR2, requires input from the game engine that proton doesn't have access to.
in reply to dlove67

@dlove67 @Dynsks There's nothing stopping Proton working with it. It's a feature implemented by games, not by Proton directly.

FSR already works in Proton.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@Dynsks Well yes, but generally when people say they hope it gets implemented they mean like the FSR1 implementation thats universal.

Apologies if that's not what was meant though.

in reply to dlove67

@dlove67 @Dynsks That's usually in Gamescope, which is entirely separate to Proton and GE-Proton has only ever had FSR1 for the reason you already said

I'm hyped for it. The game was a blast, the movie will probably be at least interesting.

@TheFrenchGhosty @bgtlover Sure I don't care about American prudeness, most of them would faint the second they step into an Australian pub but you're right, there's a time and place
in reply to Brodie Robertson

@TheFrenchGhosty yeah, in my post I didn't say anything about allowing that stuff, in fact, I specifically stated the contrary. However, I tryed, perhaps unsuccessfully, to shift the topic for something more pleasent and funny, aka why doesn't more software have funny and inoffensive easter eggs and such surprises.

I often think of this 1987 paper:
“Homology” in Proteins and Nucleic Acids: A Terminology Muddle and a Way out of It.

“Homology” has the precise meaning in biology of “having
a common evolutionary origin,” but it also carries the loose
meaning of “possessing similarity or being matched.” Its
rampant use in the loose sense is clogging the literature
on protein and nucleic acid sequence comparisons with
muddy writing and, in some cases, muddy thinking.

Threads is officially starting to test ActivityPub integration theverge.com/2023/12/13/240001…

Advocates for #ActivityPub - IF YOU HAVE A #WORDPRESS SITE, have you installed the ActivityPub plugin? wordpress.org/plugins/activity…

At the State of the Word address this week, Matt Mullenweg was asked about support for the plugin, and he commented that less than 5,000 sites had installed it. So he wasn't sure how interested people are in it.

So... if you have a WP site, let's start installing that plugin and making more sites available via ActivityPub! 😀
