We want everyone to benefit from digital sovereignty. ๐Ÿคฒ

Hey @NextCloud could you post your stance on #digitalomnibus? Europe needs to understand that killing the GDPR will not only hurt its society but its own tech companies like @protonprivacy and @NextCloud

We need your voice ๐Ÿ™

in reply to flossifatal598

@flossifatal598 hi! We are also very worried that the work to reduce the compliance overhead caused by the GDPR will be used by lobbyists to weaken the privacy protections it offers.

in reply to It's FOSS

So why do I need this in an open source environment then?

Well, if I am to take a cyber assurance policy for my company where we only use Linux I need not only antivirus but a professional grade anti virus.

I am a bit hesitant to the Russian origin though. Panda and a few others seems to have similar products.

Same goes for my web services host, need to have AV.

So thanks for the article and may I look forward to a comprehensive guide to Linux AV products?

in reply to It's FOSS

Good to see acknowledgement that it is good to find this in 25.10 before the bugs make it into 26.04 LTS. This is a major change, I would be surprised if bugs were not being found (in fact, I would be very hesitant if no bugs were being found). The open beta releases are doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Bagpipers play tribute to AC/DC in world record attempt in Melbourne

"The world record for biggest bagpipe ensemble was broken in Melbourne on Wednesday, with 374 pipers playing in unison. The ensemble played AC/DC's Itโ€™s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock โ€˜nโ€™ Roll) to a crowd of thousands. It broke the previous record, set in Bulgaria in 2012, by 41."

What an Australian thing to do!

No Turkish bagpipes? (I knew someone who made Turkish bag pipes - he had a standing offer to anyone who had a goat they no longer wanted: He needed goat skins that were cut a certain, particular way.)

The big boy book of There Is No Antimemetics Division is available now.

qntm.org/antimemetics

It's extremely good, because the original work is extremely good. I was hoping rewrites and the professional editing process would improve it significantly, but the changes are mostly neutral. There's an audiobook, which is nice.

The work, in any of its available forms, comes with my highest recommendation. One of my favorite works of fiction of the past 10 years.

"I will face god and walk backwards into hell" - a Dril tweet about yelling at zoo animals.

"You cannot kill me in a way that matters." - a Tumblr shitpost about mushrooms.

"Do you think God stays in heaven because he too lives in fear of what he's created?" - Spy Kids 2, the children's movie.

And now:

"Babies are born worshipping unknown gods." - a Dwarf Fortress bug report.

Any other good candidates?

In my household, we often quote this sign I found in the basement of an academic building. (Image taken February 3, 2020. A few months later I realized I should have taken the note but of course I didnโ€™t get a chance for quite some time, and it was gone by the time I returned. Everything is not back to normal.)

I've just finished reading They Called Us Enemy by George Takei. I've had that book on my to be read shelf for some time, waiting for the moment when I felt up to the emotional impact. What an insightful work! WOW!

It's about how the US government rounded up US citizens of Asian descent (including Takei's family) and incarcerated them in order to "protect" the US during WW2. Of course it left me angry with the US government, but in that it's timely. The current administration is already recreating internment camps.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

in reply to Muse

Yeah, it can get heavy. However, Takei does a good job of not making it overwhelming.
in reply to Muse

Farewell to Manzanar is also a testament to the Internment.
Last year at the National Gallery in DC, there was a Dorothea Lange photography exhibit which had photos from Manzanar.

Apparently an engineering issue with Springer Nature platform is inflating citations for their online journal articles through circular citation links. They were informed by the preprint authors months ago, but nothing's happened so far.

Found this one while I was typing up something on a couple of spectacularly terribly written Scientific Reports papers and asking how they passed peer review. Hmm.

Valve reveal the new Steam Frame, Steam Controller and Steam Machine with SteamOS gamingonlinux.com/2025/11/valvโ€ฆ

#SteamOS #SteamFrame #SteamMachine #SteamController

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

We had the Gabe-gear, now we have the Gabe-cube ;)

If I hadn't just got a new SFF pc I'd be super interested. I'm hoping the Frame will be cheap enough to justify as I recently got properly into VR via the Steam link app on the quest 3s and the Frame solves every issue I have.

At the very least I'll get the controller, deck with the middle removed, exactly what I thought they would do.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I am REALLY hoping that the price point of the Steam Machine allows me to justify getting one, and maybe even replace my โ€œnormalโ€ gaming PC. I eagerly await more information on it as they release it. #SteamMachine
