December out of the blue I just decided. I want a Steam Deck OLED. I already had a LCD which Ive put a 2TB SSD.

Then the timming could not been better, found a OLED Limited Edition White. Now I have two Steam Decks.

Context Expert Panel Investigation Steps Information to Stakeholders Publications & Documents Contacts Summary The final report of the Expert Panel on the 28 April 2025 blackout in continental Spain and Portugal identifies the causes of the blackout and outlines recommendations to strengthen the resilience of Europeโ€™s interconnected electricity system. It was prepared by a technical Expert Panel of 49 members, including representatives from Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Regional Coordination Centres (RCCs), ACER and National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), and was chaired by experts from two unaffected TSOs. The investigation concludes that the blackout resulted from a combination of many interacting factors, including oscillations, gaps in voltage and reactive power control, differences in voltage regulation practices, rapid output reductions and generator disconnections in Spain, and uneven stabilisation capabilities. These factors led to fast increases of voltage and cascading generation disconnections in Spain, resulting in the blackout in continental Spain and Portugal. Based on these findings, the Expert Panel sets out recommendations addressing each of the factors identified in the report to help prevent similar events in the future. These include strengthened operational practices, improved monitoring of system behaviour and closer coordination and data exchange among power system actors. The findings of the investigation also underscore the need for regulatory frameworks to adapt in order to support the evolving nature of the power system. The 28 April blackout was a first of its kind event, and the recommendations aim to strengthen system resilience with solutions that are already technologically deployable. This blackout highlights how developments at the local level can have system-wide implications and underlines the importance of maintaining strong links between local and European system behaviour and coordination, while ensuring that marketโ€ฆ

The big talking point that emerged DURING the blackout, led in particular by Bloomberg's Javier Blas, was that over-reliance on solar resulted in low 'system inertia' (the heartbeat of the grid). Others, such as a prominent Norwegian nuke advocate, helped spread it. it was COMPLETELY WRONG
4.4.2.3 Role of Inertia Role of increasing the total system inertia This simulation aims to investigate how additional system inertia could have affected the transient evolution during the incident. For this purpose, the dynamic models of the conventional generators, turbines, and other rotating masses were modified to increase the inertia constant. After these modifications, the total system inertia increased +20 % compared to the base case. Figure 4-95 and Figure 4-96 show the Spainโ€“France active power exchange and the frequency at the La Cereal 400kV substation for the base case (blue), the case with a +20% increase in total system inertia (green), and the PMU measurements (red). The two simulations are very similar, and only a slight delay in the loss of synchronism can be observed. These results indicate that additional system inertia had a minimal impact on the degree of system evolution in the final moments of the incident. To better understand Figure 4-96, it is worth to note that a higher inertia makes the peninsular system inject and absorb energy with the rest of Europe in a slower (and slightly stronger) way during the loss of synchronism than in the base case. This makes the transient unloading of the system higher and, therefore, the overvoltage disconnections happens before than in the base case, making the frequency evolve in a steeper way towards blackout.
The blackout in Spain has now become as difficult to talk about as the Wuhan lab leak. Just because I shared some preliminary facts about the incident, I am now being accused of spreading misinformation in the name of nuclear power. Ironically, Ketan Joshi is affiliated with "The Australia Institute", a lobby organization with a clear anti-nuclear agenda, and supported by powerful, well-funded interests. A recently published report confirms that surges were the trigger for Europe's worst blackout. This corresponds exactly to what I myself pointed out a month ago. The problem now is that some are using this report as a basis to dismiss all other significant factors in the incident. The amount of inertia in the system was right on the edge of what is acceptable according to ENTSO-E. "Hellbreese", i.e. large amounts of sun and wind, are still a contributing factor. The energy solutions that do not contribute to system support cannot therefore be exempted from all blame. A well-functioning power grid needs voltage regulation, inertia and short-circuit performance. Some think this can be solved with batteries alone. But the solutions do not exist at scale and no one yet knows which market will pay for these services.

I ran Arch for years, but eventually I got tired of having to periodically spend hours figuring out how to fix a broken update or a busted AUR package.

I've since moved on to LMDE7 because I just want my computer to "work" - I don't want to have to work extra hard to make that happen. Sorry Arch!

While nobody should use the Opera browser it is nice that more companies are supporting Linux and these kinds of things also makes Linux look more legitimate as a gaming option.

yeah, Opera isn't exactly what a privacy-conscious person would use, but Linux is freedom and freedom mean options.

And also, privacy is a spectrum, if Opera GX being available on Linux means more people will jump ship, then that's a big win.
