in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

well, in the end I only care about being able to play games decently well on linux. I'd rather get a proton version instead of a not tested, never updates native linux version. Guess I'm just pragmatic like that.

My father-in-law and I were drinking the same beer and almost got them mixed up. A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I mixed our beers up and created an awkward situationโ€ฆ

So, obviously a 3D printer is the solution! I present: the beer bottle charm print.

Prints in <5 mins so you can print one in every filament you have. Tested on a handful of bottles, but I'd love to hear your feedback.

A new ๐Ÿงต on the #COVID19 situation:

I am getting more cautious about #COVID19 again. I believe you should, too. New data:

- COVID in US wastewater has doubled in the past five weeks and is still rising (biobot.io/data/).

- US COVID hospitalizations are up 40% in a month and still rising (covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-trackโ€ฆ).

- COVID positive rate has risen over 150% in two months. It's now matched our highest positive rate in the last winter surge, and it's still rising (covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-trackโ€ฆ)

Is it time for hashtags to evolve?

Well, they're about to on Mastodon due to an upcoming change in v4.2.0, advanced by @Gargron himself.

I have some thoughts.

#TheProblemWithHashtags

in reply to Chris Messina

No, Vince Aggrippino. It's simple, if the end of the post is just hashtags, beginning with a newline, they are not rendered in the body. Yes, it does.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Got it. That does nullify one of my critiques. Glad to hear it.

I maintain that the behavior introduced with this change should be optional and opt-in by default, and that additional capabilities for hashtags and adding metadata should be explored, as the rest of my post suggests.

I will update my post within 48 hours to clarify.

Something weird's going on with the Google Scholar index. I just went looking for Janzen (1980) and got ... a paper in Ecological Economics as the top result? And when I forced it to find the canonical paper, it only gave me citations to it?

Did @sse_evolution's move to OUP somehow break the journal's representation in Google Scholar?

"how does the developer and their worldview impact software design?"

The developers are not your average lefty that we're used to. They are authoritarians. Hierarchical, subservient, in-group vs out-group, ends-justify-means, jackbooted conspiracy cult bullshit.

How will that influence the features they prioritise, how they run their community, how they manage conflict?

It doesn't take much imagination.

The scope of this just amazes me. The sombrero galaxy is ~94,000 light years wide. Even if you could somehow manage to be in a position to see it "up closeโ€ (such a relative term here!) youโ€™d be looking across 94,000 years of history all at once. I mean, I suppose we're doing that here as well.

The mind reels.
