Turns out my Kdenlive bug wasn't just a weird Arch thing, it was a weird MLT thing, there was a regression in MLT that caused it to duplicate the first audio track onto every other audio track with MKV files bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4…

@Karl Auerbach I believe G & S didn't even like each other very much, but they were incredibly successful working together. I didn't know about "Engaged". How interesting. It has a rather Shakespearean plot.
in reply to Muse

@Muse - Yes, it is as crazed, or rather, more crazed, than Shakespeare's comedies. Reading the summary is more confusing than watching it - assuming that it's not done with impenetrable accents.

I saw it at Santa Cruz Shakespeare - they had it in rep with a pair of Shakespeare plays, so the actors were well versed in twisted plots.

The Wayland Linux Screensaver Dilemma #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/Jy3Y0God0Ag
in reply to Brodie Robertson

technically you can have something similar to a screensaver on Plasma by installing an animated background or shader from the KDE Store and setting it as your lockscreen background. I did this once and it worked pretty well.

In case you missed it, you can make your entire posts searchable without using hashtags if you opt into the new full text search system. Here's how to do that:

➡️ fedi.tips/how-do-i-opt-into-or…

However, it's still worth using hashtags too because:

-Many people follow hashtags, using relevant tags in a post reaches them

-Many people aren't opting into full text search, so you can still find their posts with hashtag searches

-Hashtags are useful for indicating the topics you actively want to discuss

Anyone interested in getting involved with open-source protein fermentation (e.g. precision fermentation or gas fermentation)? youtube.com/watch?v=URkkhe3JCX…
in reply to Gerrit Niezen

From my experience community biolabs are passion projects that don't always pan out in the long term. But I think they're important infrastructure and community spaces.

Some sort of lab meeting between home labs and community labs around a shared project would be great and I'd be happy to help with logistics and facilitation because it'll probably help BwoB too by giving some folks direction/motivation to join as members. I think the amybo project could be a good nucleus.

@gendor @aqueum

in reply to Danny (he/they)

@danwchan What @gendor calls gas fermentation is a subset of what I’d call biomass fermentation, I’d like to produce whole edible high-protein content biomass. The dream would be to do it from solar & air, but this year I’m thinking of nothing more than a spirulina culture in a Pioreactor. Baby steps.

@niklaskorz @mfraz74 eh they haven't been that since the early HIB, I see it the same as every store:

- Do they have a good deal I quite like? Yes, okay buy.

No store or company is your friend, just grab the good deals and be happy with your games 😁

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I already downloaded all the games before my last subscription ran out, just in case they pulled some stupid stunt that stopped me getting at them in future. Then they brought in that launcher. The actual bundles can still be good but I'm never giving them subscription money again.

Another #rstats post - what are your favourite examples when teaching students to think critically about data/figures and interpretations?
For example, Simpson's Paradox and the importance of considering important subpopulations - is brilliantly displayed in the Palmer Penguins dataset.
in reply to PhilipLeftwich

this is nice for illustrating pseudo-replication (which students seem to really struggle to grasp)! I try and do something similar when teaching comparative method (ie clades not pop's) using some Anolis body size data (left) then some simulated data for a couple of other traits. This penguin data might be a nice introduction to this -would you mind sharing your code for the two plots? Thanks!!!

You’ve probably heard of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” bc of her heroism on the Titanic, but there’s so much more to her story.

Margaret Brown (her real name) fought for workers’ rights, women’s rights, education & even ran for the Senate - before women could vote. She established Titanic’s Survivor's Committee & helped erect the DC memorial.

And yet, Brown wasn't allowed to participate in the congressional Titanic hearings simply bc she was a woman. #history
