in reply to Lynnesbian • • •if steam could give us this (left), why can microsoft and sony and nintendo not do any better than this (right)?
steam is a WEB STORE COMPANY specialising in DIGITAL HATS that made a NICHE CONTROLLER, ONCE, and it FLOPPED! microsoft invented the start button THIRTY YEARS AGO and has made FOUR GENERATIONS OF GAME CONSOLES with ON SCREEN QWERTY!!!

but do you understand? You can buy the keyboard attachment to be able to throw written slurs as fast as you think to the guy you just fragged and teabagged!

that guy in the facebook movie was right all along: drop the "the".

Same "laser pointer to letter" input everywhere.
There was a demo input method (I think by valve?) that let you input with drumsticks and a keyboard floating in front of you like a xylophone.
And it was *so* intuitive and precise!

in reply to Lynnesbian • • •i just found a microsoft research paper where they compared the standard on-screen QWERTY with a "split" layout where the left stick controlled the left side of the keyboard and the right stick controlled the right. they found a 10% increase in words per minute and that even inexperienced typers were usually faster! and then they did nothing with it!!
the standard layout is SO BAD that a tiny change like splitting it in half can lead to immediate, near-universal improvements, and we're STILL not doing anything about it!!!
