in reply to Lynnesbian

huh, I've always called it "lay-tek"

is this like the Aussie pronunciation of "dah-ta"

in reply to Josh Holland

@josh the LaTeX website mentions both, but does list "lah-tek" first: latex-project.org/about/

i think both of them are "correct", really

Thank you @Christoph S!

I suppose next to (or along with) the Periodic Table, the DNA duplex is the most recognizable " #Science "
thing. Nice to see people excited and come up to share their science wears (earrings on one, and this lovely TShirt person I took a selfie with)
I did heed @blogdiva on rally attire and put on a lab coat too!

And quite a good turnout! There was a brief march from Schenley around Cathy Fifth/Forbes, Bellefield and back

YES 👇🏼💯

Some of y’all forget the reason we have food safety regulations is because companies used to do things like adding chalk to spoiled milk so it looked normal.

Regulations don’t exist because governments enjoy them. They exist because pure unadulterated capitalism would kill us.

in reply to MEActNOW

Chalk added to milk was the least of it.

While researching a story on this for radio, I learned they also used plaster of paris and pureed calf brains.

A lot of people, including children died. #Food safety regulation is critical. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi… #health #uspol

In a first, Japan issues cease-and-desist order against Google

In an unprecedented move, the Japan Fair Trade Commission on Tuesday issued a cease-and-desist order against Google for violating the country's anti-monopoly law by forcing manufacturers to preinstall the company’s apps on their Android smartphones.

This is the first time that Japan has issued such an order against any of the major U.S. technology companies referred to collectively as GAFAM — Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft.

in reply to Muse

It's very hard for me to understand the actual terms in the order, but it seems the main thrust is to allow Android OEMs to de-Google-ify their phones. I think it means the following:

They won't need to install Chrome nor make Google be the default search engine for any browser installed, and they don't need to install Google Play, but they can install Google Play but must be allowed to do so without any other requirements.
