In Prague today, I went to find the spot where this picture was taken: Soviet tanks in the city center in 1968, crushing the Prague Spring - an attempt by the people to gain more freedom and independence. Soviet Russia wasn't having any of it, here in the heart of Europe.

Look what this place looks like today. Flooded with tourists. I found that the picture was taken from a spot right in front of the medieval famous astronomical clock.

What's happening in Ukraine is more of the same.

For #Caturday: This is the cat who, for three years, would dash out of my office the moment I entered. Then about seven months ago, for unknown reasons, that all changed.

You can see how (not) stressed out Tennessee was last night, sharing the office with me.

The sky and the Earth, two eyelids closing, the dwindling light now a mere slit of fiery colours. Nightfall.

Brilliant point well made by David Osland.

We're told pensions are 'unsustainable’, the Post Office is ‘unsustainable’ and now that the NHS is 'unsustainable'. They were all entirely sustainable before the private sector starting looting the public sector.

My old cat, Faris, was a smart and grumpy former street cat. She lived until she was 17 years old, and I still miss her dearly. Rescue truly is the best breed.

💙😻 And somewhere on the enemy side, intelligence reports: “Yes, I confirm, they have a CAT IN MILITARY UNIFORM there! What is this?!” And in their confusion, they lose several more tactical positions. Because there is no defense against Ukrainian creativity and cats in pixels!

My latest: Discord said late on Friday that hackers stole users' government-issued IDs (passports and driver's licenses) from one of its customer support databases.

I wrote a few words about the risks of age verification laws, and why collecting people's government IDs is bad for security and privacy.

do you scan as part of the development service? And if so at what resolution would you go for? Or do you scan at home?
in reply to Mez

@mez The former. I go for TIFF scans if they're offered. About 6774x4492px for 35mm.

"We are told we are free. We are given a bookshelf and nowhere to put it.

It would be easier if we were just broke. But the cruelest trick played on millennials wasn’t poverty. It was false mobility. Just enough money to move cities, not enough to buy. Just enough prestige to feel special, not enough to command loyalty from employers. Just enough cultural capital to curate taste, not enough to own property. We hover in the in-between. The bookshelf comes with us."

DHH has nothing to do with Ruby. Ruby is a beautiful language that was developed in Japan by @matz.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I'm well aware. have you not been keeping up with current events?

edit: removed Matz' handle so we don't end up threading at him.

@Gargron @fishidwardrobe i understand what you’re trying to say, but DHH does unfortunately have a lot to do with Ruby. Rails occupies a lot of, if not most of, the zeitgeist for Ruby. it’s a great multi-purpose scripting language but most people who use it, especially professionally, are using it to work on Rails applications. DHH is not just the figurehead for Rails; he’s a huge presence in the Ruby community at large
in reply to david celis

@Gargron @fishidwardrobe also, FWIW, Matz has basically been defending DHH on social media in very disappointing ways (second screenshot is just an alternate translation since the first is apparently not as good)
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @davidcelis @fishidwardrobe I've written about this a few days ago. About this very tweet. There's a little bit more context around similar Matz’s tweets around the time.
