In Prague today, I went to find the spot where this picture was taken: Soviet tanks in the city center in 1968, crushing the Prague Spring - an attempt by the people to gain more freedom and independence. Soviet Russia wasn't having any of it, here in the heart of Europe.

Look what this place looks like today. Flooded with tourists. I found that the picture was taken from a spot right in front of the medieval famous astronomical clock.

What's happening in Ukraine is more of the same.

He uses racist tropes to accuse Asian men of being dangerous predators who attack white women. He pushes debunked conspiracy theories about immigrants replacing white people. He finds a march where speakers called for banning all non-Christian religions and ethnically cleansing immigrants “heartwarming”. Finally — and maybe most alarmingly — he argues that all of the above is normal and not extreme.

@Gargron @fishidwardrobe i understand what you’re trying to say, but DHH does unfortunately have a lot to do with Ruby. Rails occupies a lot of, if not most of, the zeitgeist for Ruby. it’s a great multi-purpose scripting language but most people who use it, especially professionally, are using it to work on Rails applications. A translation of Matz’ tweet: Phrases like "hostile takeover" (RubyCentral has been managing Bundler and RubyGems for many years) and "DHH, known for discriminatory remarks" (while DHH is known for his strong language, it's highly questionable whether his remarks are discriminatory enough to be labeled as such without context) seem quite malicious in nature.
