Latest Steam Deck update will warn you if an Xbox controller needs upgrading gamingonlinux.com/2025/12/late…

#Steam #SteamOS #SteamDeck #Xbox

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

this was a issue I had for a while when trying to connect controllers to my Steam Deck
I knew it was possible they just wouldn't appear in the Bluetooth menu or would freak out when connecting

Turns out they just needed a firmware update even though they where brand new

Thinking of using a Raspberry Pi as your daily driver? These Linux distro options might surprise you. 🖥️

in reply to It's FOSS

as the article talks about a distro for a child, I recommend a lot #debianedu .
(First of all I think 4 years old is too early to get contact with computers, even with screens in general)
My 11 years old kid has local access (no web) to tons of material about science, drawing, programming... And he is always discovering new secrets or option there.
For sure raspberry pi is a good platform for scratch, laby, colobot... Using #debian 😀

if you’re (rightly!) pissed at Firefox for doubling down on AI nonsense, as a web developer I would humbly request that you consider trying Waterfox, Orion or Safari before you move to something based on Chromium; Google are already too powerful, don’t hand the web to them

We noticed a rising interest regarding the use of AI in browsers. To be clear about our position on this: Zen currently is disabling all AI features included in Firefox and will continue to do so.

@Muse - that's why I used orange peels - nothing yellow, only Orange. Orange scented cleaner works as well. Tho I found Navel Orange peels - just the peels, no juicy flesh - worked as well.
@Muse
in reply to Muse

The peels contain the most bitter smelling part of the fruit.

Here's a neat quick terminal tip! 🐧

Very handy to include with incremental user backups or before doing a major version upgrade. This file can be used ad an input for dselect to restore your installed packages quickly.

You can also do something similar with pip (if you use python app packages too).

oh no, due to a series of misclicks, I just accidentally archived the most recent 100 emails in my inbox.

if nothing else, reviewing my "all mail" folder is doing a good job of making me question how important emails in my inbox actually are.

a peek inside my commonplace notebook: I have had these natural watercolours made by a local Thai artist (Sand Suwanya) for a while and was one day interested in learning more about the sources of the pigments

I do feel sad learning about cochineals

Thanks for sharing these extra pages, it's different but it still feels like it all came from the same hand. Have you had a chance to read The History Of Thinking On Paper?

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

@neauoire I'm hearing about it first from you; looks like something I'd take fascination in. I'll keep an eye out for it on my next bookstore treasure hunt! :eyes_fast:

@neauoire It seems that both uxnsdl2 and uxn11 uxnclis as well as uxn5 (at least the repl in the uxntal wiki page) are printing the stacks on a null byte:

|e @ System/debug $1
|100 [ LIT2 00 -System/debug ] DEO

I just went back to some code that depended on not printing the stacks when

.DEBUG LDZ . System/debug DEO

is zero and noticed the current behavior.

Day 16 of the amazing #decemberadventure

Ive been using MPD as my music player for a while, and I finally decided to write my own client in #uxn!

I am planing to have the app have a Windows-95 looking interface once its done! I got polling of the last song and pause/play working! Will most likely setup next/prev track buttons, then add the ability to select a playlist and toggle shuffle-mode!

My opinion is that there should be one big button labeled "opt out" and when you click it it should opt you out. Just in general.

In one of the all-too-regular threads bemoaning the leadership decisions at Mozilla, someone mentioned offpunk (thanks someone!), an offline-first command line browser. This is nice.

I need to get back into using RSS-- what are some good readers these days?

RSS is still one of the biggest sources of traffic to my blog, so it's definitely far from dead. (Yes, yes, a niche retro-tech blog's traffic is probably not representative)

in reply to Nicole Express

also Feeder for me, and I just use the reader on Thunderbird on my laptop (which I also use for emails).

Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices.

I wonder whether this will affect Thunderbird, which I love.
in reply to Atanas

@AtanasE Yes. There are two thoughts on this:

  1. You can use web-based e-mail access, which is much safer and more immune to issues anyway (provided your provider isn't bad.)
  2. You can freeze the current version and not update it. E-mail is not an evolving thing like the Web is, so you're pretty much only looking at security updates at this point anyway.
