Found a nest of one of my favorites! A true oddball. Leptomyrmex erythrocephalus, the red-headed spider ant.

New house came with a SolarEdge inverter already installed. ☀️

Plot twist: I can't actually access the thing. SetApp login fails, and the WiFi credentials printed on the side? Totally useless.

Anyone dealt with taking over one of these as a new homeowner? Is there a reset procedure I'm missing, or am I just stuck pointing at it hoping it magically works?

LOOK AT THIS AND DON'T LOOK AWAY! This is what #palmoil and #gold #mining #greed looks like in #Indonesia right now. All three species of #Orangutan are critically endangered due to palm oil and it is the main reason for the #floods. The #greenwashing continues, use your wallet as a weapon #BoycottPalmOil #Boycott4Wildlife

#Researchers have identified a species of #frog Limnonectes phyllofolia completely new to #science. The tiny #Indonesian #amphibians have unusual fangs in their jaws thought to be used to defend territory #Boycottpalmoil #Boycott4Wildlife @palmoildetect palmoildetectives.com/2024/07/…

Why use a GUI when your calendar fits in the shell?

Another shocker... 🙁. #TaxTheRich. Might help the bottom 99% if they'd just toss a few crumbs. Grrr.

@LOrealGroupe is worth it...worth boycotting forever 🧐👎because they use so-called "sustainable" #palmoil that still causes #deforestation! Resist the #greenwashing lie and #Boycott4Wildlife #Boycottpalmoil 🌴🪔⛔️🔥 @palmoildetect.bsky.social palmoildetectives.com/2021/02/…

This is sooooo cool! Paint powder on a drum being thumped, and filmed using an extra extra slow motion camera.

I love wooden kinetic art. This is good fun!

why does googling "gtk whatever" bring up the GTK3 docs for GtkWhatever half the time! GTK4 released five years ago!!!

and the only way to tell which one it is before clicking is that one little grey digit 🙁

Somehow #Tidal has failed to inform me that the new #Avkrvst album came out June this year. Catching up now.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Happens a lot, release notifications still miss niche or algorithm-edge artists. At least AVKRVST rewards late discovery. How many releases slip by because Tidal optimizes alerts for engagement, not completeness?

linuxrocks.online/@Linux/11573… Linux@linuxrocks.online - a statement from Waterfox team:

"... browsers are operating systems of their own, and a browser’s job is to be a good steward of that environment. AI, in its current form and in my opinion does not match that responsibility.

... The core browsing experience should be one that fully puts the user in control, not one where you’re constantly monitoring an inscrutable system that claims to be helping you.

Waterfox will not include LLMs. Full stop."

Muse reshared this.

It seems to only be available as source code, a tarball or on Flathub. That means I'll either manually need to keep it up to date or set up Flatpak for you, which I can do if you want.

My cats bring me these sorts of gifts, only they are ALIVE. Fortunately, they are also unharmed except lingering problems with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm the one who has to re-catch these gifts and put them back outside!
in reply to Muse

When I graduated high school, my mom threw a party. We had around 100 people in the house and on the deck. Our cat, Tami, figured out that there were a lot of mouths to feed and started bringing (dead) meadow voles from the empty field across the street. Guess who got to remove them. Tami brought 47 voles that day. I seriously wondered if she didn't empty that field of voles.

I wonder how many local news publishers have no idea that their websites have an RSS feed.
in reply to Nathan Schneider

Recently set a relative up with an RSS newsreader that includes a feed from (what's left of) their local newspaper, which is very clearly accidental - the website is based on Wordpress. It's good to be sneaky
in reply to ophiocephalic 🐍

Yep. I'm grateful my local paywalled private-equity paper has a fulltext feed

This lil' one watched us eat lunch for a while. Definitely no ulterior motives! #california #urbannature

It's weird how much my writing practice has started to be what happens while waiting for AI to write code. It is a new species of multitasking. And no multitasking is good, to be clear.

I had a dream that I bought the new Commodore 64 Ultimate, and was severely disappointed when I woke up and it wasn't here.

No debate: Linux is the best open source project on Earth! 🔥✨

#linux

in reply to It's FOSS

No disrespect to the Linux kernel, but activity is orthogonal to quality. Just because a project has a lot of activity gives zero indication about how good the code is. In many cases it's the opposite - lots of activity indicates a code base so riddled with bugs that it needs endless fixes.

And lack of activity doesn't indicate an obsolete project. It may also be the opposite: one that works perfectly as designed and intended.

in reply to It's FOSS

So, the question is, how compromised has it actually become?
