Memories of a walk in nature, 11 years ago, in search of a Silent Sunday, a bit of peace in a tumultuous and turbulent period of my life that would soon come to an end, although I didn't know it yet.

This photo holds a profound significance, known only to me.

pearl gets a lot of shit but if i had a crush on a hot eight foot tall bbw and she left me for a guy named greg who plays ukelele and lives in a van and then fucked off forever, leaving me to raise their child, i would be tearing plaster off the walls with my teeth

Is NixOS Actually Incredible!?! #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/aMT7EIiC46k
in reply to Brodie Robertson

yes it is, I was astounded that nobody recommended it to me when I was going through Arch, Gentoo and the like when NixOS has all of their advantages and none of their PITA. At the same time if you know what you want it’s both easier to use and more stable than “easy” distros like Ubuntu that shit the bed as soon as you try to venture off the beaten path. 9/10

Hey #Socialcoop friends, a question: what would you think of us piloting a Personal Data Server for Bluesky under the co-op? No commitment, just an experiment.

I enjoy much of the bardcore music I've found online. This is "Running up that hill" by Kate Bush done in Early Middle English. Later Middle English you would have some hope of deciphering!

Fedora Linux Is An Experimental Distro And That's OK #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/x9qCqRTEVz0
in reply to Brodie Robertson

you said that Nvidia users with Wayland generally have hard times (I'm paraphrasing) unless they have newer cards, how new are you talking? I have a 2060 super, about 3+ years old iirc, I've never had Wayland issues with my Nvidia card, I've had screen capture problems (still have) but aside from trying to record the screen with OBS, my Wayland experience for everything I do is pretty much flawless imho.

@meatlotion I don't have a full line to test but it seems like 20 series onwards is where the biggest improvement are happening
in reply to Brodie Robertson

Fedora was the first distro I used when I switched to Linux and still is the one I use today. I have had few bugs that were not catastrophic, but overall it never felt like an unstable distro.

We are having a similar problem with kittens here! This week the temperatures will be over 30C, including one day promising to be around 37-38C. I was up early this morning to water the garden. The tomatoes are so close to ripening and I don't want to lose them!

Dear @Gargron - can you explain? Is this a new default? Is it limited to certain instances or a general warning? cc @evan social.singularity-node.net/@k…

It's a new anti-phishing measure. People do not notice when they leave their own server, and this can be abused by e.g. causing a redirect to a login form.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Using "Open original page" or "Copy link to post" circumvents this situation. Problem only arises when sharing URLs meant for logged-in users.

Counting citations hasn't been a reliable measure of scientific impact for a while, especially on platforms like Google Scholar that compile info from random documents. Hyper-authorship, predatory journals, etc have all contributed to the problem.

This preprint just drives home how important it is to measure scientific impact more carefully and without reliance on automated metrics

Google Scholar is manipulatable

I wonder if AI is advanced enough in 2024 to be able to exclude self-citations in a citation count on google scholar. I'm guessing not yet, since there seems to be no button for excluding self-citations. I guess that seriously complex deep learning algorithms will be needed to figure out if an author is citing themselves 😀 I'm looking forward to this major technological leap in AI.
in reply to Frank Aylward

Hey I like this! Where do I sign up to buy citations, you ask? Here you go:

" Intrigued by a citation-
boosting service that we unravelled during our investigation, we contacted the
service while undercover as a fictional author, and managed to purchase 50
