Recall is Microsoft’s key to unlocking the future of PCs

Remember folks, if the computer remembers all they need to do is steal your computer. Or get access to it and just ask the stupid AI the right questions to retrieve your passwords with this new bad idea from Microsoft!

And Now They Want To Sell You Another Way To Have Your Personal Info Spied on and Stolen!

I didn't think of this earlier but a comment mentioned you could also move the .cache or at least the .cache/kwin/qmlcache into a tmpfs, I have not extensively tested this so I can't say if there are any unintended side effects

Backblaze just became a storage option for Mastodon admins. I heard it’s quite cheap

backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-b…

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I know this is an old post, but instances are coming across many issues using Backblaze with Sidekiq failures, regardless of setting up timeouts, retry attempts, etc

Mainly 503, No tomes, execution expired, & 443 errors during times of congestion

Any chance of getting a look at the root cause or some hints on best way to handle this so small instances can continue to afford cdn?

After weeks of working with Backblaze, after many 1000 errors, here is the final result

@ClearlyClaire

My wife and I had a cat we often referred to as The First Good, a response to the Buffy TVS character known as The First Evil. Pets have a special ability to put us back in touch with what it means to be there for someone.

Reading this🧵? Your blood probably contains some amount of toxic #foreverchemicals made by #3m

Enough to spike your risk of cancers & illnesses?

Without a blood test, you have no idea.

Why is their toxin running in your veins?

Well, 3M & #dupont kept the harms secret even as their toxins were incorporated into...everything.

From french fry bags to chairs.

They gaslit their own scientists.

& regularly dumped, creating toxic zones. 1/

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

in reply to Kevin Beaumont

I should be transparent btw that I took Satya and Charlie’s commitment to security at face value too - I even published a blog on it backing that up - and I have concerns (it isn’t just me).

They’re now going to have to win trust back about winning trust back.

in reply to Kevin Beaumont

I know somebody at a retailer in Europe that is selling Copilot+ PCs. They’ve had fewer than a thousand preorders through to customers.

In relative terms, for them it’s about as successful as Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League.

Maybe the question of whether a system is governable matters more than whether it is open.

maybe, but I'm a fan of the consent of the governed, which seems to imply openness.

Hopefully there's an AUR package soon. I hope this fixes the flickering and frame pacing issues in games on Optimus laptop configurations. The proprietary driver is basically unusable on my laptop. I'm more excited for #NVK which has already made my laptop way more usable than ever before, but it would be nice to see the proprietary driver being a usable alternative rather than a glitchy mess.

"partly because the publisher backed-out after making them go silent on it for so long" no doubt. In fact it sounds idiotic, they shouldve been building hype around it, not be silent.

Also too bad they had to shut down, very much so, but props for ensuring their game will live on

Here's a fun fact

Whilst the term underflow does have a different meaning when referring to floating point numbers, it can also refer to an integer going past the minimum limit , this may also be called a negative overflow but that is not the only correct term for it. See CWE-191 cwe.mitre.org/data/definitions…

I really wish it was playable on Linux. The Epic version at least, is not. At least not without some really messy workarounds, because some FMVs are in some unknown codec, which does not work on Proton. Of course, SE could change that, but that would make too much sense 😕

Sounds like a privacy nightmare. You should consider #Linux 👍

One day this will type of stuff will end up mandatory, and even if it’s local it’s being fed into an AI. This stuff will get abused.

you mean you don't need to be updated on if people want to game on Linux or not?
