...and while I'm at it, some little sea-things, too! The sea was much more calm than last year, although when we'd gone crabbing the tides were quite powerful. #california #nature

Just some little woodsy things from the north coast. One of the reasons I like that area so much is just how much growth there is everywhere – fungus popping out of everything, trees growing improbably, little happy bugs and such (and, conversely, how hard it was to keep my walls mold-free when I lived there). A nice change from the Central Valley sometimes. #california #nature

When does @nextcloud finally improves this toolbar on iOS?! These small icons are horrifying and sometimes even not touchable as they often stuck in the rounded corners of the device. #Nextcloud

hi! thanks for pointing this out. We would appreciate it if you could share your issue here: github.com/nextcloud/ios

I've created a personal website.
ominous.net

It is built with the Oscean static site engine written in Uxn by @neauoire, who along with @prahou and their respective websites, have inspired me to develop my own.

I have set a goal to write a long form essay once a month with my first being “The Stars in Your Eyes Are Stolen: Æon Flux and Decentralized Power Systems” found here: https://ominous.net/Æon_Flux.html

I hope folks enjoy my little corner of the internet. I intend to expand it often.

@Gregori @aleph Me too! @prahou probably has the most insights on this, since you have been parsing all these different feeds recently. 😅

I never thought of that but spatiality does indeed seem to be the thing that attracts me to it. Similar to Smalltalks.

in reply to Kirtai

@kirtai I've been day dreaming about making a self implementation for uxn, something about that 8 opcodes VM feels like it would be fun play with..

I've been listening to CD's more in my car and am trying to be more intentional about listening to artists recommended by friends rather than relying on algorithmically generated radios when streaming. It occurred to me today that similar to a book site like Bookwyrm, I could use MusicBrainz to get metadata and use CritiqueBrainz to leave small ratings and reviews that will give me an outlet for being more opinionated about the music I listen to. I hope I'll be able to find my way to describing what music I actually chose to listen to, found myself enjoying, and why. critiquebrainz.org/user/pixell…

edit: someone suggested also trying NeoDB and I'd be open to hearing comparisons for people who have tried either musicBrainz or NeoDB stuff!

I recently helped fix a record player at a Repair Cafe and realized that they are super simple inside. They had purchased it for $1. I definitely want to track down a cheap vinyl player now so I can expand my physical library into vinyls, not just CD's. The CD's will satisfy me for now. I've been swapping CD's with my partner's dad, who I share a lot of music taste with.

All of this is a part of me realizing that the answer to leaving Spotify is not just one service: it's trying many things. CD's, Vinyls, Soulseek, live concerts, student radio, Bandcamp, Mirlo

wait do you have link to the benchmark, I want to give it a go; bunnymark runs all the way up till the number of bunnies overflows in my ordinator and I want to try something more intensive to see where the bottleneck is in my rendering code
in reply to Aled;cd

try the file linked above, and bring TRI_COUNT all the way up, it'll start being weird after more cycles than the size of an int, but give it a shot 😀

If you want to make an animation like the video, put the scene function in the screen vector.

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Oh I wanted to benchmark my little ordinator (which I should probably publish) it runs oquonie so I'm hoping its up to task
in reply to Aled;cd

@ldcd OOoh! Excellent, yes, perfect. In that case, compare the benchmark to uxn11 which is as good an implementation as I know how to make it today.
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Published! the only bug I know of in the existing version is the click handling, some programs will register multiple clicks
in reply to Aled;cd

@ldcd just got to try it out! That's coming along nicely 😁 Single file rust emulator, very pretty.

@calutron lol @ Nikolina's visuals. I should try using this for audio reactive visuals next show!
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Nice optimizations!! That ROT2k ORA2 ORA2 was gold 😛

As you saw in the repo I'm slowly working towards a little #uxn 3d engine, stay tuned 😀

The benchmark draws a lot of very large triangles, and those are particularly slow. In a game I expect only the environment to be made up of so big triangles (and even then, one can subdivide as in PS1), so hopefully we can have more triangles than 32 per frame.

Also, it's going to be interesting to see if the improved (2nd iteration) sprite-based drawing routine improves performance!

in reply to gustav

For what it's worth, the SNES was only able to manage about 24 polygons per frame via the CPU, so these routines are beating that! 😀

It'd be hilarious to see an equivalent of the Super FX chip in Uxn, either as an external device or as a series of routines.

in reply to ⟅ June ⟆

@june That would have to use the Screen device expansion port, but that takes away all the fun ^^;

@dianawastaken @dodecadron @rspfau and then there is Peter Higgs, with less than ten papers and a Nobel.

It's a bit strange to talk about, because so many scientists work their butt off to publish maybe few papers a year. But hyper-publication in a relatively small number of labs skews standards and expectations for everyone else. And, depending on the scale, it compromises the integrity of the whole peer review process, without necessarily producing any meaningful products.

in reply to Jan van der Laan

@dodecadron @rspfau
I genuinely gagged when I read that. Silly me, thinking I could pursue research without publishing over 20 articles per year on the regular

But… did you post this after the event started?

Maybe I ask my question again here:
Is there a way to search by file type and size in NextCloud?
After my Google photos export, I have a ton of JSON files that I would like to select and delete.

in reply to David

hi there! In Nextcloud Files, you can filter files in your library by type (top of the list) or sort them by size by clicking on the Size column header.

As for the event announcement – right, it seems like a timing issue. We will announce the next meetup here when we have it planned: help.nextcloud.com/
