Ohh, so a public repository many people rely on, where anyone can publish their stuff was never really a good idea?

in all honesty, the DMCA needs a provision to allow for things like this, and to get rid of the vagueness for fair use, and to provide better protection for content creation.
Hopeful that happens without greedy companies either poisoning it or tanking it completely.

DMCA takedown has been revoked yesterday as it seems that it was made by a troll and not GSC. Maybe they will do some proper licensing this time

I was just trying to decide if I was going to play this or one of the many D&D old school CRPGs. I think I'll finally play Pillars of Eternity! I didn't realize Avowed was going to share a world with the Pillars games until a few days ago and I'm pretty excited for Avowed.

one more to the e-waste list.... I love what Steam has done with Steam Deck, but all these copy/paste items trying to get a piece of the cake of the handheld boom is just exhausting

Not saying they're crap, but I don't think they will have the long term support and reparability that SD offers

Cross-distribution support improvements coming for Canonical's Snap packages gamingonlinux.com/2024/01/cros…

#Linux #Snap #Canonical #Ubuntu

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

The sandbox of a flatpak is the same on all distributions, unlike a snap¹. In addition, the snapcraft.io backend is proprietary (unlike Flathub), so this format will never be adopted by all distributions. If they really want to be cross-platform, they should start by working on these two points.

¹ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_(so… search for AppArmor

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

apt-get install firefox is the main reason for me for stay away from ubuntu and never, ever use their server flavour.

They should keep both things, native applications and snap clearly separated instead of silently inject snap packages in apt.

Thats simply evil.

Hey, #rstats champions! Sometimes you might want to consider reordering 🔀 your boxplot groups to more clearly illustrate the differences between them. You can easily achieve this with the `reorder` function within your aesthetic mappings. Check out my blog for a full working example and code.

I keep meaning, but repeatedly forget, to do an #introduction post.

My name's Bernard. I live in #Dublin #Ireland with my wife and 2 kids. I'm originally from #donegal and spent a few years in #cavan in my teens.

I work in #SRE

I started mastodon.ie in 2019 and had a couple of instances before that. I also run a #funkwhale instance at playitfaster.com

Beyond tech, I love music. Mostly #punk with some #folk (I played guitar for #belfast band Runnin' Riot for a bit) #mastodaoine

@ephemeral haha, we've almost definitely met! 13 and Jasper are up in Donegal now, right? Who else was in em when you were? I'd still see Gaz, Alex and Mark from The Derelicts a fair bit.
in reply to Bernard McKeever

Might have. I was on bass in the original line-up, with Wes on drums.

Yes, the lads are both in Donegal. Derelicts lads took over when me and Wes left. Good fun, great music too. Tell the Derelicts lads I say hi.

We’ve been flooding around here. A few towns upstream of us have had to evacuate. I had to take a circuitous walk home this morning because water blocked a number of paths. It’s dangerous to be around a Eucalyptus right now, because those amazingly tall trees don’t have very deep root systems!

Does Wayland Really Break Everything? #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/xkc4MswwHSY
in reply to Brodie Robertson

to be honest, it did break the ability for me to change display settings and then it’s not letting me change them now because it still thinks I’m running on Wayland instead of X11.
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I only now started seriously considering Wayland thanks in part to you and @thelinuxEXP .

I installed River WM, as I love BSPWM, and heard it was the closest. I use the Nvidia Proprietary Drivers, which I know..no guarantees. Apparently it was working in 535, but 545 introduced really bad artifacting and stuttering...

Other than that some apps work, others don't. Wayland is ready..kinda. The apps and Nvidia need to work to truly say that ± We need more than a handful of TWMs.
