Happy Large Boulder the Size of a Small Boulder Day

Spent the day with so many adorable young scientists!

PBS Kids Day was a treat. I love meeting curious kids & watching them marvel at #science. Children ask the best questions.

My brother has a plastic owl perched on his roof to scare away some woodpeckers. Not like his house is infested with grubs though...

It's humpback🐋 season but the only one I've seen so far this year was a glimpse from a plane last week.

Calm mornings are a good time to see them though.

(There is a fishing boat heading out in this photo.)

I got a used fresnel light for indoor photography. These things are really expensive new. Now I just need a stand because this thing gets very hot.

New research challenges hunter-gatherer narrative

"Analysis of the remains of 24 individuals from the Wilamaya Patjxa and Soro Mik'aya Patjxa burial sites in Peru shows that early human diets in the Andes Mountains were composed of 80 percent plant matter and 20 percent meat." #AnimalRights #nutrition #plantbased #food #diet #GoVegan sciencedaily.com/releases/2024…

in reply to Dragofix

<💬>
The oft-used description of early humans as "hunter-gatherers" should be changed to "gatherer-hunters," at least in the Andes of South America"

---

Additionally, burnt plant remains from the sites and distinct dental-wear patterns on the individuals' upper incisors indicate that tubers -- or plants that grow underground, such as potatoes -- likely were the most prominent subsistence resource.
</💬>

tuber-gatherer 🙂

<💬>
Haas notes that archaeologists now have the tools to understand early human diets, and their results are not what they anticipated. This case study demonstrates for the first time that early human economies, in at least one part of the world, were plant based.
</💬>

This isn't the first time I've read such news.

i think it's not the age, it's the lack of support (last atoms are from 2013 afaik). these pieces of rubbish have low-power graphics made by PowerVR, and they haven't opensourced the linux driver. proprietary one is, unsurprisingly, severely out of date and unmaintained 😁

- AI spam destroying discoverability on search
- Fracturing of social
- Collapse of programmatic ad market
