Fortunately, our block long Farmers' Market is quite rigourous about your having to have made your product (arts, crafts, utensils, etc) or grown it. Then there are three blocks of crap from all over the planet. That's a whole other entity and proposition. In general, I think low balling is rather rude way to initiate a transaction. If I was selling a guitar, for example, it would be the end of the discussion.

We know so little of the hidden world beneath the seas. This is a perfect example of why it is so risky to just power ahead and start mining our oceans.

@Jay Bryant It does matter, because these people may put their hands up again in 4 years or perhaps even 8 years. It also matters because it affects their roles in the states from which they come.

I really would appreciate if Nextcloud would self host videos. On a #nextcloud instance or a #peertube instance.

The recent CrowdStrike outage is a wake-up call: centralized services are a single point of failure. 🌐

For true digital resilience, we must decentralize and diversify our technology. Read Nextcloud's take on this event.

pubpub.org is a vision of the future for publishing research - half-decent multi-user editing, build-in peer review (including line-by-line commentary and conference workflow), rich text (including videos etc), archival DOIs, and no need to deal with arcane LaTeX or MS Word templates or PDFs, and notionally an open source platform. It has its quirks, but I've used it for a couple of workshops/conferences and it's worked pretty well.

Sadly it's shutting down as a free platform, but excitingly, they also say they're going to make it possible to self-host it. I really hope that's going to work out. I'd be happy never compiling a PDF, or using 'easychair' 'microsoft cmt' or 'hotcrp' again, that's for sure.

I'm surprised I didn't catch this song by Garfunkel & Oates when it first came out a number of months ago. I once even attended one of their concerts in Melbourne!

Great lyrics! Great tune!

Interesting article!
Working with UE as an indie is a pain. Especially with the blueprints being binary files and the engine being so big. But I'm glad the developers found a solution.

I really want to know why Valve even has the SteamOS page online anymore, since there isn't an official release for generic hardware version of the SteamDeck OS, this page still links to the old Debian 8 Jessie version store.steampowered.com/steamos
in reply to Brodie Robertson

all download links redirect to Steam Deck Image, So it's basically impossible for any noobs to download something completely outdated.

They definitely still should update it.

I guess the Dem elite got what they wanted. No plan, no nominee, and utter chaos. Great for news ratings, but pretty bad while we’re trying to fight the other party who is absolutely united behind the fascism at our door.

#Potatoes Are the Perfect #Vegetable—but You’re Eating Them Wrong
Humble #potato is a miraculous vegetable, but #Americans are eating less of them than ever before and have ditched fresh potatoes for frozen. Time to rebrand the spud?
Once this miraculous nutrient-dense vegetable was the fuel of human civilization. Now the spud is become synonymous with a garbage, industrialized food system that pours profits into a handful of companies at the expense of people’s health.

Subsidiaries of Indonesia’s second-biggest palm oil company, PT Astra Agro Lestari (AAL), are running illegal plantations, grabbing community land, and intimidating critics, according to a new report by NGOs.

The report is a follow-up to a 2022 report by Friends of the Earth, and identifies at least 1,100 hectares(2,718 acres) of concessions that lie inside forest areas that should be off-limits to plantation activity.
