Speaking of eyes, I was commissioned by Privacy Salon to create an artwork for the 18th International @CPDPconferences ("Computers, Privacy and Data Protection") Conference in Brussels, Belgium, on the theme 'The World is Watching'.
in reply to jamesbridle

I first encountered this phrase through the Occupy Movement, when it denoted the then novel sousveillance technique of live-streaming acts of resistance and state brutality to the internet. It has since expanded to cover the broader digital panopticon we all live in today. This includes everything from acts of citizen journalism and witnessing, to 24/7 atrocity news broadcasts, and global surveillance technologies.
in reply to jamesbridle

My feelings about the value of such 'watching', once an idea of empowerment, have become correspondingly ambivalent.

The final artwork consists of drawings of a hundred sensory apparatuses: the eyes of humans, felines, birds, canids, equids, cetaceans, ungulates, and so many more, as well as the oculi of insects, jellyfish, and crustaceans, the light-sensing cells of plants and bacteria, and the scanners of smartphones, drones, satellites, and information-processing systems.

This little guy hit a window while I was outside gardening. They were stunned for quite a while - I sat quietly nearby - but eventually flew off to join the rest of the family. As they recovered they perched on a fallen twig.

Short of plastering stickers and sun catchers over every square inch of the windows I donโ€™t know how to stop birds flying into them.

in reply to Fionnรกin

@ephemeral something that washes off in rain wonโ€™t really be very effective in Wales. There are two windows in particular that get most bird strikes so Iโ€™ve focused on decorating them but it isnโ€™t working well. The young birds are still learning I guess.

yes nor in Ireland. I lived in a cottage when I tried it but it was too much to keep reapplying most days (plus rinsing the toxicity of the soap into the land doesn't seem a good idea).

A bit late for them, I guess. They might have sold me Dad of War Ragnarok if they'd put it on GoG alongside the first one

Anyways, still a step in a good direction, for sure

way overdue, they shouldn't have created the problem in the first place. But I'm glad they're learning.

I'm back at the Kielderhead Wildwood, five years on from when I first started working with them as artist in residence through VARC (Northumberland UK).

Five years ago, all that was on site was a lot of low-lying brush and thousands of trees in deer-guards.

Me and two others planted a stand of 200 birch and rowan trees out on the moor in 2021.

It rained sideways, hailed, and snowed, and we carried heavy equipment over very rough terrain. We named it Varda Wood, after Agnรฉs Varda. The trees were whips, inside tubes, no more than half a metre tall.

Now some of them are taller than I am.

in reply to Fionnรกin

I chose to come back in summer this time, because I wanted some of the trees to be in leaf. I underestimated how much the bracken would hide them in photos. In any case, I think it's visible in the photos how much they have grown. My apologies to anyone with colour issues.

Netanyahu the opportunist

Netanyahu is living out the Zionists' (incl his daddy's) dream of expelling the Palestinians, wiping out all enemies, & fulfilling the "Greater Israel" project (see map ).

Zionists have been doing ethnic cleansing, slow genocide & stealing Palestinian land since imperial Britain gave them the go-ahead in the 1920s.

According to David Norris, who was a Dublin senator and is a Joyce scholar, the first official celebration of Bloomsday was held on its 25th anniversary on 16 June 1929. That night, Joyce was the guest of honour at a dinner party held at Les Vaux de Cernay, a village near Versailles. After dinner, Joyce and his protege, Samuel Beckett, โ€œget pretty tight,โ€ Norris said. 1/2

Following on from that, NIST guidelines recommend:

โŒ DON'T enforce complexity (upper, lower, numbers, special chars)
โœ… Instead, DO require 8 chars minimum, and up to 64 at least
โœ… Also, allow _any_ characters (space, apostrophe, etc.)
โŒ DON'T force users to change passwords regularly; then they just add incrementing numbers at the end and it doesn't help security
โœ… But DO block passwords/patterns (qwerty, asdfasdf, etc.)
