As I conclude my Senate fellowship, I’m deeply grateful to Senator Gary Peters of Michigan and his brilliant, thoughtful team. I will miss working with them tremendously.

Thanks as well to the Council on Foreign Relations for the chance to serve during such a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. It has been a transformative year, for me personally and for democracy. 1/2

Despite political uncertainty, I leave D.C. hopeful knowing that so many caring and dedicated colleagues will continue this important work, and I look forward to carrying all I’ve learned into the next chapter of my career. 2/2

Congratulations on navigating your way through challenging times. I look forward to hearing about your next adventures.

Humanize the people who the current administration of oligarchy are trying to villify.

In the 80s I started university and immediately watched my university begin to crumble under President Reagan. When I returned to university in the 90s, at an Australian university, I was at the centre of a controversy with several other students whereby one department was trying to hijack my PhD in order to gain more corporate money and status. The department in which I was lecturing was also compromised by the big deal they made with Apple for "free" computers.

I hope people take note of this article.

Universities have lost their way, but cost-cutting and consultants are not the answer

in reply to Muse

@Richard You cannot fire or lay off a professor with tenure. This gives them freedom to express what might be an unpopular or controversial opinion. It also gives them freedom to focus on research they find fulfilling. The concept was to ensure a diversity of ideas would always be present at a university, not just the ones that suited a certain segment of the institution. It also means you have a secure job in your old age.

Yes! We definitely hope so. Stay tuned…

@snarfed.org @miinatsu It should come with a disclaimer that mostr.pub has been developed and is maintained by a known transphobe who previously worked for Trump on the Truth Social platform. So if you care about that, do not check it out.

So, they take money from businesses and citizens with "tariffs" and then buy the companies that pay tariffs. Seems like Oroboros .
Although it seems that the Intel money adds up to what Biden had already committed to Intel for the CHIPS Act. TFG just re-characterized the program to fit his grasping tiny hands.

Sad news: the WebAIM mailing list is shutting down on August 27.

The archives will remain available.

Since 1999, the WebAIM @webaim email list has distributed discussions on web accessibility and provided a virtual community for a diverse range of members. I've been subscribed since 2002, and I learned more about accessibility from the list and its members than from any other single source on the web.

End of an era.

in reply to Philip Kiff

For those who don't know, WebAIM @webaim is a non-profit service centre operating out of Utah State University.

They run the WebAIM Million project, which reports on the accessibility of the home pages of the top 1000,000 websites.

[1]Over the years, I've found their resources on Creating Accessible Documents to be a reliable link to share with folks to begin learning about document accessibility.

in reply to Philip Kiff

The decommissioning of the WebAIM list is a perfect opportunity to recognize and promote the other longest-serving mailing list dedicated to accessibility: the Webdev (or Web Design Update) newsletter run by @laura_carlson out of the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Since 2002, this weekly email newsletter has reliably collected and categorized the best articles on web accessibility. I can't recommend it highly enough.

To be fair, the ingredients shouldn't be so easily recognizable.
in reply to It's FOSS

Nice joke!

If ever a Linux distro becomes a mainstream OS, ordinary (= most) users must be protected from having to know about the ingredients, still less the soil they grew on.

We just need to use our computers!

Though we do need organised surveillance by people qualified to detect potential 'poisoning' at the instigation of influences that don't need to be discussed here.
