Nope, nope, none, no kitty!
I'm hiding!

Why does every commercial depiction of honey involve one of these?
Literally nobody has ever seen one of these in real life
in reply to Matt Hall

I have seen these in real life all my life and I own one. They’re often sold among other wooden utensils at fairs and markets.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

This is interesting to me. I grew up and and live in the US. Honey is most often acquired at a supermarket in a plastic container shaped like a bear.

You _squeeze_ the container to dispense the honey.

No spoons, no wands. Just honey.

So... The wand seems _amazingly_ superfluous to me. I literally don't understand the appeal.

in reply to Matt Hall

I'm not surprised. In Germany it's more common to buy honey in jars.
in reply to Matt Hall

My grandparents used one, and yes they kept fresh honey from a local beekeeper. But yeah, commercial honey killed the charm with plastic bottles. Go check out your local farmers market, you can usually find fresh honey and utensils there.
in reply to FeloniousPunk

This might sound snotty or obtuse, I don't mean it to, I understand the appeal of fresh honey (it's my preference) but I still can't quite grok the utensils... What's the advantage of the wand over say... A spoon or just pouring from the jar and wiping the lip of the jar when finished?

I feel like I'm genuinely _missing_ something.

in reply to Matt Hall

Why have a cake fork when there's the dinner fork, or the table spoon when there's the tea spoon--part tradition, part adaptation. This particular utsensil is good at keeping the honey from dripping off while you're transferring it to your mug.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Sure, I understand the concepts of traditional tools/utensils etc. I don't especially adapt to them. It's more the utility that I was curious about.

Thanks for the reply!

why do ur gingerbread cookies look more pale, then mine? and it's not even the baking part, cause my dough is also (way) darker than this
in reply to Eugen Rochko

the guardian (the newspaper) recipe, i'm pretty sure

225g unsalted butter, softened, plus extra to grease
340g soft brown sugar
1 egg
340g plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1½ tsp grated nutmeg
1½ tsp ground cloves
2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 tsp ground ginger
75g crystallised ginger or dried apricots, finely chopped

in reply to Drew Smirnoff

I use the recipe from Giallo Zafferano with about half as much butter and sugar, but probably the main reason is I used white sugar.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

What color filament is this? LOL! JK! I want some and also some perfectly colored PLA filament.

Instagram on Linux CLI? It’s geeky, cool, and slightly terrifying.

“Heim 6-timers” survived and 58.25 km accumulated. 66 % type 1 fun, 33 % type 2 fun. ;) Hour five felt hardest, but there was something left in the legs to put down fast five minutes before the end. Pretty happy with how the race went: 27 + 27 + 27 + 25 + 23 + 25 rounds looks nicely distributed effort over such a long time.
Now I got some indication why marathoners feel weird after km 30. ;)
Passed the full marathon distance after 4h 14m 40s 💥.

I search for the new day myself. When I awake and look around I find no tomorrow. Rather I find the today that has already come. My folks! There is no tomorrow.

👀 I am currently recovering from an illness and decided it might be a fun idea to develop a just in time compiler for UXN while I wait for my health to improve. Decided it might be fun to post some updates along the way: github.com/can-lehmann/uxnjit
in reply to Can Lehmann

@neauoire (well, ok, maybe the reasoning is more in the other direction. I am working on metajit.cpp for a research project and thought it might also be a good fit for writing a UXN jit).
in reply to Can Lehmann

either way, I'm hyped. Hop on IRC if you wanna bounce ideas : )
